Bargain Barn owner discusses closure after more than 50 years



In what came as a local business shock, on March 26th Jerry and Freida Stover announced they will close Bargain Barn, one of Jasper’s oldest and largest retailers.

While the Stovers are well within retirement age and plan to retire themselves, they will not sell the business because “it went from very profitable to unprofitable,” Mr. Stover said. Over the last four years, Mr. Stover said in an interview last week that sales lost to online retailers made deep, unsurvivable cuts to their bottom line.
