Enlighten Pickens inaugural meeting August 15

Enlighten-pickens

Danita Clark Able

“Women of All Ages Embracing life in All Stages” is Enlighten Pickens. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 15 at Madeline’s on Church Street at 11:45 a.m. Reservations are required, lunch will be served and a $15 donation will be collected.

The guest speaker for the inaugural Enlighten meeting will be Danita Clark Able, an author, blogger, entrepreneur and advocate for women and children. Her memoir, Letters From A Whoremonger’s Wife, details her years as a victim of marital abuse. Physical, mental and financial abuse was part of her life for two decades. In 2009, she found herself divorced and penniless and dealing with an

undiagnosed physical ailment. Since that time, with faith and determination, she has managed to turn her life around. Ending the stigma placed on the victims of domestic violence and encouraging and educating women to move beyond the turbulence, is her life’s mission. Danita has been featured on Atlanta Live Christian TV, appeared as a guest on numerous radio programs and was keynote speaker of the Bartow Chamber of Commerce Domestic Awareness Month 2016.  Ms. Able is a Rodan & Fields consultant and the mother of two beautiful children, Garrett and Lindsey.

Enlighten was founded in May of 2017 by Michelle Roberson. Her passion of sharing and caring spurred the development of an organization to encourage, empower and educate girls and women of all ages and stages of life. Through monthly meetings of activity and fellowship Enlighten grows relationships.

Ask Michelle why she is the woman she is today and she will first answer, “God and second, my momma!” This answer lead her to build and grow Enlighten. Edith Couch Kemp, Michelle’s mother, is a God-fearing, strong willed, career educated woman. She grew up the youngest of 11 children in Grayson, Georgia. Many boys, girls, men and women of every age, profession and faith have experienced the love, direction, instruction and devotion of “Ms. Edith.”

Enlighten will encourage attendees by offering opportunities for individual growth; empower local non-profits and charities through volunteers and gifts; and educate women of all ages by awarding scholarships for on the job training, career development and continued education.

The hour long monthly meetings will provide a meal, a mentor and a meaning. Meetings will be held the third Tuesday of each month. Enlighten wants to give every woman the opportunity to participate. Monthly meetings will alternate a breakfast, lunch and dinner each quarter.  A meeting donation will be taken to facilitate the Enlighten programs, projects and community participation.

“I want women to have fun! Be who they want to be and share those experiences with one another.  Too many times we don’t lift one another up, cheer each other on, be there in times of celebration and need – Enlighten is the place to do all of this.” Many who know Roberson, have heard her say, “If you can’t have fun and give something to someone – go home!  Life is too short not to have a good time with others.” Thus,  Enlighten – Women of all Ages Embracing Life in All Stages.
