Greg Chesnut

 

Gilbert Gregory Chesnut, known to friends as "Greg," passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 at the age of 69 at his home, concluding his battle with cancer. 

Greg was born in Decatur, Georgia in 1949 to Gib and Sammie Chesnut.  He graduated from Tucker High School in 1967 then attended East Tennessee State University where he lettered in Football and was named to the All Ohio Valley Conference Team in 1970.  Upon graduation, Greg served in the United States Army as a 1st Lt. from 1971-1973.  While he spent over 30 years in Sales before retiring, his most rewarding years were the ones he enjoyed in the Pickens County School System, particularly the ones spent at Jasper Middle School running the "JMS Hilton."    Greg loved to spend his spare time fishing with his best friend and wife of 36 years, Jill Chesnut.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Gib and Sammie Chesnut.  

Greg will be sadly missed by his wife, Jill Chesnut; daughter, Tiffany Chesnut Hamilton (Joel); granddaughters, Hailey and Makenzie Moore; son, Grant Chesnut (Heather); granddaughters, Brin, Allie Grace and Eva Claire Chesnut; sister, Sandy Wages (Dan); niece, Brandi Waller and nephew, Michael Hopkins.  

Those who desire may make memorial donations in memory of Greg to the Pickens County Animal Shelter at 3563 Camp Road; Jasper, GA 30143.   

Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.  

 

Emily Denson

 

Emily Denson, 92, of Jasper passed away Friday, May 17, 2019 at Windsor Lodge in Jasper, Georgia.  She was born January 14, 1927 to Weldon Clyde and Dora White Low in Pickens County, Georgia.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper.

Emily is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Patricia Denson; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Lee New; grandchildren, Blake Denson, Jennifer Noon, John Luke and Courtney Weaver; great-grandchildren, Luke Weaver and Charlie Weaver; brothers and sisters, Jimmy Lowe, Coy Lowe, Bobby Low, Willie Mae Turner, Gwendolyn Nealy, and Sandra Wehunt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Denson; parents, Clyde Weldon and Dora Low; brothers and sisters, Weldon Lowe, Auby Low, Geneva Martin, Betty Rott, Patsy Low, and Syble Brooks.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Lewis officiating.  Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Blake Millsap

 

Blake Millsap, 8, of Talking Rock, GA passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Egleston Childrens Hospital. Blake attended Harmony Elementary, played for the White Knights baseball team and his nickname was "Big Bat."

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, from the Riverdale Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Union Arbor Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at South Canton Funeral Home.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joe Millsap and uncle, Benjie Millsap.

Survivors include his parents, Brandon and Kimberly Millsap; grandparents, Alan  and Angie Davis; grandparents, Diane and Mike Davis; brother, Chase Millsap; sister, McKenna Millsap.

Several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends also survive.
