Gene Ballew
Mr. Gene Ballew, age 73 of Jasper, passed early Monday morning, March 23, 2009 at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Ballew, Jasper; daughters, Carol Eugenia Moore, Dallas, Ga., and Cynthia Marie Kimmons, Stockbridge, Ga.; brothers, Don Ballew, Talking Rock, and Doug Ballew, Grass Valley, Ca.; and sisters, Shirley Ann Palmer and Ruth Ann Reece, both of Jasper, Patsy Platt, Tate, and Nancy Massingale, Henry County. Eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. from Tate United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert Bruce and Parker Benson officiating. Entombment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum with Kevin and Adam Kimmons, Cameron Moore, Doug and Harley Platt and Danny Bright serving as pallbearers. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Martha Grimm
Mrs. Martha Grimm, age 61 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed early Tuesday morning, March 17, 2009 at Wellstar-Kennestone Hospital, Marietta.
Survivors include her husband, John Grimm, Ball Ground; sons, Gary Grimm, Shingleton, Mi., and Troy Grimm, Levenworth, Ks.; daughter, Michelle Bishop, Levenworth, Ks.; brother, Mike Bolt, Jarretsville, Md.; and sister, Linda Feldten, DisPlaines, Il. Ten grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Grimm was preceded in death by her parents, William and Vivian Kendell Bolt; brothers, William Bolt and Terry Paledianno; sister, Sandy Wise; and son, John.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cagle Funeral Home in charge or arrangements.

James Pearson
Mr. James (Jim) Pearson, age 98 of Ball Ground, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Chestnut Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Pearson was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church and was a retired auto mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Pearson; step-children, Billy (Melinda) Sams, Calhoun, and Barbara Lewis, Ball Ground; nephew, Grady Pearson; nieces, Betty Ruth Howell, Louise Jones and Mary Lou Wheeler; aunt, Vera Pinyan; and cousin, Jerry Pearson. Several other great-nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28 from Four Mile Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Boling and Jeff Wilkie officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jerry, Grady, Ben, Robert and David Pearson, Dwayne and Jerry Howell and Lamar Jones. Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Jenkins
Mrs. Dorothy Mae Jenkins, age 78 of Big Canoe, passed away March 26, 2009 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Herndon ?Hank? Jenkins, Big Canoe; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ray Rex, Lemont, Il.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and JoAnn Jenkins, Woodstock; her beloved granddaughters, Morgan and Audrey Rex; sister and brother, Doris Quinn and Raymond Adams, both of Westminster, S.C. Nieces and nephews also survive.
She was born in Oconee County, S.C., graduating from Cleveland High School. Moving to Atlanta, she worked at Sears and Rich?s (now Macy?s) for 30 years. She was a member of the Clairmont Hills Baptist Church, Decatur, Ga., serving in the Nursery Department for over thirty years. She was a volunteer at the Fernbank Museum after her retirement. The ?light-of-her life? was her granddaughters.
Her memorial service will held on April1 13 from the Big Canoe Chapel, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gray Norsworthy officiating. The body was cremated. The family requests in lieu of flowers make donations to the Big Canoe Chapel, 10455 Big Canoe, Big Canoe, Ga. 30143, or the American Diabetes Association, 1710 Beaugard St., Alexander, Va. 22311.

John Ivey
Mr. John A. Ivey, age 62 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ivey, Jasper; son, Kennady Sale, Memphis, Tn.; daughter, Johna Ivey, Asheville, N.C.; brother, Dave Ivey, Sardis, Oh.; sisters, Regina Black, Morristown, Oh., and Denise Russell, New Matamoras, Oh.; and granddaughter, Alyssa Wilkerson. Mr. Ivey was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Ivey; brother, Ken Ivey; and daughter, Dusty Ivey.
A graveside service was held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. with local DAV in charge of military honors. The following served as pallbearers: Dave Reed, Eddie Bryam, Dan Griffith, John Young, Dale Menko and Terry Borden. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lois Russell
Mrs. Lois Elizabeth Russell, age 84 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her sons, John W. Russell, Ellijay, and Richard Russell, Jasper; daughters. Connie Russell Chumley and Sheila Russell Lovern, both of Jasper; and sister, Maggie Dean, Mineral Bluff. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Russell; and daughter, Diana Russell.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Chip Wilson and Ferrell Presley officiating. Interment followed in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Darrell and Grady Russell, Justin and Gery Chumley, Don Gravitt and Phillip Martin.

Fannie Crowe
Mrs. Fannie L. Crowe, age 85 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born April 17, 1923 in Etowah, Tn., she was the daughter of the late Henry Jefferson and Lillie Odell Watkins Chamblee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Walton Crowe; sister, Ann Chamblee; and brothers, Lewis and Bill Chamblee.
Mrs. Crowe had worked as a nurse?s aid at Grandview Nursing Home until she retired and was a member of Free Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Sarah Crowe, Tate, Ga.; Wayne and Deborah Crowe and Glenn Crowe, all of Jasper, Ga.; sisters, Mrs. Marie Gutherie, Ball Ground, Ga., Mrs. Evelyn Dulworth, Dallas, Tx., and Mrs. Ellen Branscum, Marietta, Ga.; brothers, J.L. Chamblee, Suwanee, Ga., and James, Franklin and Joe Chamblee, all of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren, Sheri, Greg, Jason and Marsha Crowe; and great-grandchildren, Dalton, Courtney, Emily and Beth. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 27 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Larry Holden and Tim Pearson officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Greg and Jason Crowe, Charles Burrell, Dan Smith, Gene Henderson and Mike Chamblee.

Michael Zipse
Mr. Michael J. Zipse, age 24 of Murfreesboro, Tn., passed as the result of an auto accident in Murfreesboro, Tn.
Mr. Zipse was born in Miami, Fl. and had lived in Pickens County, Ga.
He is survived by his father and mother, Richard Wayne and Catherine Zipse, Talking Rock, Ga.; mother, Michele James, Miami; grandparents, Joan Butler, Talking Rock, Alice B. Coble and Mark Nichols, Deland, Fl., and Billy and Nancy Coble and Cecil James, all of Miami; sisters, Kristen Mainard, Duluth, Ga, Jennifer C. Davis, Murfreesboro, and Alice D. Zipse, Talking Rock; military brother, Will Hamilton, Murfreesboro, and comrades.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 30 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Von Hinton officiating. Interment followed in Georgia National Cemetery in Cherokee County with local Chapter 47 DAV in charge of military honors. Pallbearers were: Craig Zipse, Kurt Matthews, John Schaffer, Kevin Vanepps, Jack Stevens III, Craig Donaldson, Tony Parret and Josh Banks.

Joyce Reece
Mrs. Joyce E. Wilson Reece, age 60 of Waleska, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Heartland Hospice.
Mrs. Reece was a member of Pleasant Arbor Baptist Church and devoted housewife.
Survivors include her spouse, Larry L. Reece, Waleska; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy C. and Jeff Kinser, Jasper; granddaughter, Heather Kinser, Jasper; sisters, Josephene Goss, Canton, and Jackie Wright, Jasper; brother, Johnny Wilson, Woodstock; step-father, Jerry Garland, Canton; and half-sister, Jeanell Stokes, Canton.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 1 from Pleasant Arbor Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Childers, Nathan Smith, Leon Goodwin and Wayne Wright officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Marian Wood
Ms. Marian Wood, age 83 of Jasper, Ga. and formerly of Stockbridge, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009.
Survivors include her nephews, Allen and Jimmy Cole, Don Wood and William H. Grimes, Jr.; and nieces, Elizabeth Nowland, Cherie Ferguson, Pat Nichols and Regan Wooley.
The family had visitation at Cagle Funeral Home on March 30 and the remains were transported to Horace Ward Funeral Home in Stockbridge Tuesday evening. Entombment was held Wednesday, April 1 at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge with Pastor Tim Dowdy officiating. Pallbearers were: Michael Ferguson, Danny Collier, Steven Guillion, Michael and Robert Cole and Ray Nowland.

Randy Vick
Mr. Randy E. Vick, age 56 of Ellijay, died Saturday, March 28, 2009.
Mr. Vick was born Dec. 18, 1952 in Gilmer County, the son of Viola Keener Vick Evans and the Late Floyd Vick. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and was employed in the accounting Department of Jasper Banking Company.
Survivors include his mother, Viola Evans, Ellijay; brothers, David and Gary Vick, both of Ellijay; and sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Raymond Long, Ellijay. Two nieces and four nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, March 30 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Revs. Paul Richards and Emuel Sanford officiating. Music was by Irene Wofford. Pallbearers were: Jeff Moss, Craig Sclenke, Mike Setser, Steven, Goss and Andy Keener. Honorary pallbearers were the Accounting Department of Jasper Banking Co.. Interment was held in the Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery.

Josephine Thomason
Miss Josephine Thomason, age 78 of Fairmount, Ga., departed this life Monday morning, March 30, 2009 at her home.
She was born Sept. 5, 1930 in Pickens County, Ga., a daughter of the late Andrew and Muriel Mullins Thomason. Miss Thomason was also preceded in death by a sister, Marie Baker; and brother, Otis Thomason. She was retired from Lacey Mills and was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Pickens County.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Phyllis Thomason, Calhoun, Homer Thomason, Lilburn, and Mildred Thomason, Carters- ville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen Wilson, Fairmount, Geraldine and Rembert Stewart and Nora Bunch, all of Hinton, and Joan Arp, Jasper. Fifty-four nieces, nephews and many cousins also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Miss Thomason will be held Thursday, April 2 at 2 p.m. from County Line Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Banks and Jess Posey officiating. Music will be provided by Simply Forgiven and Martha Gibson. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery with her nephews serving as pallbearers. The Rev. Mark Owens will be in charge of graveside rites.
