UPDATED -- The fugitive sought by sheriff’s deputies Monday has likely left the area or is hiding somewhere deep in the rugged woodlands near the lake at Salacoa Highlands, waiting on dark.
Pickens deputies were continued to heavily patrol the roads around the Henderson Mountain area late yesterday but it appears Tim Smith has given them the slip. About 3 p.m. today, Sheriff Donnie Craig said that with no sighting in the three hours after deputies arrived at a wrecked truck on a four-wheeler trail and with the trail gone cold for their tracking dog, chances are he has gotten out of the area and “by nightfall, he’s definitely gone,” he said.
Deputies could be seen checking all nearby homes, in some instances with assault weapons at ready. Craig said they didn't enter any homes where no one was home, but did check around all nearby residences.
Sheriff Craig said at this point the man wanted for a parole violation and for questioning in other crimes in Pickens “is just trying to exit,” but anyone with any safety concerns can call his office at 706-253-8901.
