From Beetles to Karmann Ghias and Things, vintage Volkswagens will descend on Main Street this Saturday, August 2 for Jasper’s first VW Car Show & Swap Meet, organized by Vintage VW off Camp Road.
“The closest VW shows you have are in Chattanooga and down in Atlanta,” said Vintage VW owner Rick Laukka, who has been working with the Jasper Merchant’s Association to organize the event. “There was nothing in North Georgia and We wanted to fill that gap, but we also wanted to bring tourists to Jasper to support businesses here and bring in some revenue.”
Laukka said with it being the show’s first year there’s no telling how many VWs will show up, “but we’ve had a great response,” he said. “Our phone has been ringing a lot this week.”
The event will feature live music, food vendors, and vendors for VW stickers, used parts, a VW locksmith, VW art and a variety of others.
Trophies - sponsored by Domin8 Mobile Food Service - will be awarded for first and second place in five different classes. Participants can also take part in the parts swap.
“A lot of older Volkswagen parts aren’t manufactured anymore,” Laukka said, “so we invite people to come out with odd parts and they can buy, sell or trade. We want to bring VW people together.”
The show will be held on North Main Street in Jasper from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
