GDOT crews repair a bump at the intersection of Highway 53 and Main Street.
Friday morning, July 25, a Georgia DOT crew was at the intersection of Highway 53 and Main Street in downtown Jasper performing maintenance to the state route.
According to area GDOT engineer Sam Wheeler, SR 53 has been in the GDOT queue for resurfacing for four years but because other state and federal funding for SR 53 might be available GDOT is performing more minor maintenance on the road at this time.
“We try not to spend too much of our district maintenance budget on highways that will be repaired with other monies,” he said, “but I wanted to get some of the worst bumps off the ground.”
The GDOT crew used a new skid steer with a milling head attachment, but the piece of equipment can be fitted with other attachments and is able to load trucks, sweep, mill asphalt and trench.
