Pickens man arrested for child porn

GBI-at-pickens-west-estates

GBI agents in numerous unmarked vehicles executed a digital forensic search of computers in the home of west Pickens man, finding images of child pornography.

A Pickens man has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography after a special unit of the GBI executed a search warrant on the computer at his Pickens West Estates home Wednesday.

Thomas Rodriguez, 36, of West Destiny Drive, is charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of children - possession of child pornography after agents found images of suspected child pornography on his computer during a “forensic preview,” according to Director of Public Affairs for the GBI, Sherry Lang.

He was arrested at the scene and booked in to the Pickens County jail. He remained in jail as of Wednesday morning. Booking information indicates he was originally from New York.

The action by the GBI raised alarms throughout the quiet Pickens West Estates subdivision when numerous unmarked vehicles arrived early Tuesday morning, along with some Pickens deputies. One neighbor who called the Progress said they rarely saw Rodriguez or his family outside in the subdivision.

Lang said the digital forensic investigators collected evidence from hard drives in Rodriguez’s home. She said she was not sure in this case whether they had seized or copied the hard drives, as that will depend on the particular circumstances.

Lang said the GBI was alerted to the case by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She said the center works by tips and with internet service providers who alert them when they suspect that child pornography is being sent.

She said that Rodriguez had received the images by e-mail.

Sheriff Donnie Craig said his officers are checking any local connections the man may have had but there is no evidence of any molestation, only possession of the pornography.

Since there is no place to comment on the suicide follow up to this story; - - Guilty or not, perhaps his photo in the paper before conviction did the job.
