President EAA Chapter 268
The Experimental Aircraft Association, local Marietta chapter EAA268 (a not for profit organization), and the Pickens County Airport Management collaborate to bring to the citizens of Pickens County and all others interested the 2014 Airport Appreciation Festival on Saturday, June 28, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Young Eagles Program: Regional pilots will fly to Pickens County Airport and offer free introductory flights to children between the ages of 8 and 18. These flights are usually about 15 minutes long and serve to allow the children to experience the joy of flight. The hope is, of course, that as they grow up they will continue to carry in their hearts the interest of aviation and perhaps pursue a carrier in the field.
This program is sponsored by the national Experimental Aircraft Association, which through its many national and international affiliated chapters has to date flown in excess of 1.5 million kids from around the world.
Parents and Friends Program: In an effort to provide something for all, musical entertainment will be provided from 11 a.m. to around 2:30 p.m. The Rock band will perform a medley of original and cover songs in the Rock and Blues genres. Playing for us at this event will be Modern Myth, a great band of young talent from Woodstock acclaimed as a fantastic rock band by all who have enjoyed them previously.
Burgers and Hot Dogs: Of course, an event is no fun on an empty belly! To remedy that, the grill will be hot and working from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. cooking up burgers, cheeseburgers and hot dogs. Plates will be available with all the fixings, soda drinks, water, etc. at a very reasonable donation.
We hope to make this a very fun occasion where we can all appreciate a little hospitality from our airport and where the entire family can spend a lazy summer Saturday having fun and enjoying it all.
