ATLANTA – The Powerball jackpot is surging, reaching a nifty $173 million to a single annuity winner for Saturday’s drawing. The excitement is growing statewide as Georgia players win large prizes, and the jackpot continues to roll.
The Powerball jackpot has grown since April 26 and has rolled 10 times.
A ticket worth $1 million was sold at Shell Food Mart in Douglasville from Wednesday’s Powerball drawing. Two additional tickets worth $10,000 were sold in Flowery Branch and Hapeville.
Powerball offers two payment options: the $173 million jackpot prize paid over 29 years in 30 graduated payments; or the cash option, which is approximately $102 million. Powerball tickets are $2 per play.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
