Confederate re-enactors in Jasper

Big Mason's meeting to feature Civil war era artillery, programs



On May 24, the Cove Waterfall Association will host Confederate Heritage Day at the old marble quarry site located at 1800 Cove Road in Jasper. The event will feature the members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #1239 and the Wool Hat Boys Confederate Military Lodge #1.

            Activities planned for the event which will begin at 10 a.m. will be an Historical program for the general public including personal accounts and family/ancestor accounts from the war, brief explanation of the reasons of the war and accounts of Masonic interest.


There will be a display of historical interpretations of typical Confederate military uniforms and weapons, including an artillery demonstration of a 12 pounder ‘Napoleon’ cannon. Other weapons on display include a Mountain Howitzer and typical Enfield and Springfield muskets. In addition, some typical infantry equipment such as the equipment used in the movie Dances with Wolves and medical and surgical equipment will be on display.

Food and drinks will be available for sale on Saturday morning during the Heritage Day event from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.


The outdoor Masonic meeting is the 3rd Annual gathering for the Cove Waterfall Association. The meeting is being presented by 10 local Masonic lodges consisting of Blaine, Pickens Star, Marble Hill, Ball Ground, Waleska, Sharptop and E.W. Hightower. The outdoor meeting serves as part of the Masonic lodges annual fundraiser which provides scholarships to local students and other charities in Pickens and Cherokee counties.

As in previous years, BBQ dinners will be available on Friday from noon until 2 for the general public. Delivery to local businesses is available. Tickets for the dinners may be obtained from a member of one of the presenting lodges.

The outdoor meeting will be held Saturday with a BBQ dinner available from 2-4 for the attendees and the meeting will begin at 4.
