Suspect eludes Cherokee agents by floating down river

On May 19, 2014 two Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) agents attempted to make contact with a wanted suspect, Terry Spriggs (04-12-1972). The CMANS agents approached Spriggs at a relative’s house near Westview Street and Marietta Hwy, Canton Ga., Spriggs fled on foot and crossed Marietta Hwy and entered the Etowah River. Canton Officer(s) assisted in attempting to apprehend Spriggs. Spriggs attached himself to a log floating in the river and would not swim to shore and began floating down the river.

Officers and CMAN agents followed on foot from the shore as Spriggs began to float down stream. They were able to follow for about a quarter of a mile before they lost sight of Spriggs due to the thick brush and trees along the shore line.

Spriggs is wanted for the following charges:

Possession of Cocaine x 1
Possession of Methamphetamine x 2 Violation of probation x 2

Canton Police Department, CMANS, GSP, Canton Fire Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Cherokee Fire are still attempting locate Spriggs along the river near Marietta Hwy in Canton Ga.
