Local auctioneer Chris Childers will be featured on the Travel Channel show Baggage Battles Wednesday, May 7 at 10:30 p.m. in the first of a series of shows in which the Pickens native appears as the expert appraiser.
The show follows four “shrewd yet loveable auction specialists” who each provide knowledgeable insight into the profitable business of bidding, buying and reselling unclaimed property. The show’s website says the four travel to some of the most important auctions around the world – including airport auctions, unclaimed freight and shipping auctions, police and seizure auctions, vehicular auctions and estate auctions – with each team member relying on their expertise to find hidden treasures.
Childers said the first show he’ll appear in was filmed at Lakewood 400 Antique Mart in Cumming. There he gave his advice on a Buster Brown inflatable balloon head.
“I think they were surprised at what I told them,” Childers said. “We’ve filmed several episodes and I think the coolest place we’ve filmed was in a bottle manufacturing plant in Atlanta. I didn’t even know those existed anymore.”
