On Saturday, April 26, from 1-4 p.m., the Pickens County Sheriff’s Auxiliary will hold a special K-9 Demonstration. This event will be held at Day’s Chevrolet on Hwy. 515.
The event will feature several K-9’s doing their thing. There will be demonstrations on tracking and searches. One search will be a passive search. In this search, when the dog has the scent of the narcotics, he simply sits. The active search will show the dog reacting to his find by scratching. There will also be demonstrations with officers in bite suits.
Members of the Sheriff’s Auxiliary will be on hand to answer questions. Diesel, a therapy dog, and his owner Denny Young will be there. Diesel makes visits to hospitals to visit patients and cheer them up. He routinely makes trips to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Greenville, S.C.
There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers. The Auxiliary is also holding a raffle. The prize in the raffle is a really “tricked” out GATOR and trailer. The tickets are $20 each and only 1,500 will be sold. The funds from this raffle will be used to buy bullet proof vests and Tasers for the deputies in Pickens County. The drawing will be on Sept. 6 during Sheriff Craig’s JeepFest. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk of the sheriff’s office on Camp Road. The GATOR can be seen at this event or at the sheriff’s office.
The Sheriff’s Auxiliary supports the various functions of the sheriff and also has helped to establish and man the emergency shelter in Pickens County.
