For the 8th consecutive year the CARES food pantry is hosting A Taste of Pickens, an event that will take you on a culinary adventure to over 20 different Pickens restaurants and caterers - and at the same time raise money to help feed Pickens residents in need.

A Taste of Pickens is being held Saturday, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Chattahoochee Technical College Appalachian Campus. Tickets are $10 each. Participants get eight food selections per ticket.

This year organizers want to raise $10,000, which CARES’ Executive Director Larry Starr said will help the non-profit purchase thousands of pounds of food from the Atlanta Food Bank - and board member Regina Camp said the need is great with CARES providing food for nearly 200 families each week.

“This is one of our biggest fundraising events,” said Camp, who is heading up organization this year. “This is so important to CARES because we feed 197 families. Some times things happen in a person’s life and they can’t feed themselves because they are forced into bad situations.”

In addition to food, Camp said the local non-profit also provides some financial assistance and helps fund education programs as well.

Camp said in addition to the wide variety of food on the menu - from barbecue sliders to She Crab Soup to fried chicken and jambalaya - there will also be a cake and gift basket auction, and everyone who comes through the doors will receive a gift from Geraldine’s Bodacious Foods.
