Sharptop Arts Association is inviting you to break out your devil horns and clown shoes and celebrate Halloween with them at their Open Mic on Saturday, October 27.
The Open Mic will have all the things people have come to love about the event, from the featured musician to the classic open mic portion, but Sharptop is adding an adult and youth costume contest, with prizes to be announced, and Halloween-themed refreshments and decorations. They are even encouraging people who want to participate in the open mic to bring their best Halloween-themed song, monologue or poem to perform.
This month, the featured musician is Jasper, Ga. native Thomas Fountain, who is most well known for fronting two local bands The Instructors and 53 WEST.
Thomas decided to part ways with 53 WEST to pursue his songwriting career and hone his skills as a solo artist.  Already creating buzz with his chilling, heart-wrenching lyrics, his songs speak to people and relate to their everyday lives.  Thomas is currently in the process of developing his acoustic driven band to back him and his passion for his songs and music.  He has plans to be in the studio this winter to put his music out for everyone to hear.  Thomas has a huge classic country background and a lot of his songs have that classic feel, but you might hear a little folk, blues, or classic rock in his songs.
“Jasper has so much musical talent and would like to thank the Sharptop Performing Arts for allowing him to showcase his passion,” he said. “ Without people like the performing arts center showcasing what Jasper has to offer music wise, local artists may never be discovered.     So come out and relax, cry, laugh, or just sing along.”
The show begins at 7 p.m. at the arts center on D.B. Carroll Street in Jasper. The second half will be reserved for a traditional open mic. Performers of all ages and genres, from music to comedy to theatre and poetry, are invited to sign up for up to 10 minutes of stage time. Sign up for open mic starts at 6:30 p.m.
At this time SAA is unable to accommodate full bands that include drum kits. Acts must be able to set up and break down quickly.
Sign ups are first come first serve. To be fair to everyone, no signups will be taken before the day of the show. Please keep content PG-13.
Cost is $3 at the door.
    Light refreshments will be available.
    Call 678-986-9872 for more information.
