This Saturday, April 28, the Sharptop Arts Association is hosting its third Open Mic Night, and they are inviting performers of all ages and styles to come out and show off their talent.
In addition to the Open Mic portion of the show, Pulitzer Prize, Pushcart and Georgia Author of the Year nominated poet Clifford Brooks will be featured, along with the quirky musical duo Steve Moore and Zach Davis.
Brooks, former Jasper resident, has just released his first books of poetry The Draw of Broken Eyes & Whirling Metaphysics, published in one volume by Gosslee Press.
Brooks’ work is deeply inspired by the south, his relationships and his day-to-day observations, all of which are tinged with the jazzy undercurrents that run through his life and personality.
Brooks will read selections from his new book, which will be available for purchase.
Then Steve Moore, guitar, and Zach Davis, piano, will showcase their charisma and charm with a lively musical performance.
For the second half of the show, open mic performers will take the mic for up to 10 minutes of stage time.
SAA began hosting Open Mic Nights back in January and they have drawn large, diverse crowds since the beginning. Performances have included poetry, show tunes, Native American flutists, young musicians, dramatic monologues and many others.
The show will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sign-up for open mic starts at 6:30 p.m. At this time SAA is unable to accommodate full bands that include drum kits. Acts must be able to set up and break down quickly. Sign ups are first come first serve. To be fair to everyone, no signups will be taken before the day of the show. Please keep content PG-13.
Cost is $3 at the door.
Light refreshments will be available.
