While events for this year’s county rec t-ball, softball and baseball Opening Day Ceremonies have been scaled back significantly, the event will bring hundreds of children and parents to ball fields at Roper Park on Saturday to kick off the season.

Festivities will begin on Saturday, March 31 at 3:00 p.m. with a parade of teams from Field 2 over to Field 3. “Players’ names will be called out, then we’re going to sing the National Anthem and Jamie Fleming will throw out the first pitch,” said Pickens County Rec. Department Director Melinda Goss.

Fleming has filled many positions with the rec department over the years, from coach to umpire to board member to a rec department employee, and recently discovered he had an advanced form of cancer.

“His job will always be here when his cancer goes into remission and he beats this,” Goss said.

All players should be on Field 2 no later than 2:30 p.m. for the parade.

Games will begin Monday, April 2.

If you need more information contact the rec department at 706-253-8863.
