One dead, two injured in Highway 515 wreck Monday; GSP still investigating cause

UPDATED January 5th-- Drug charges have been brought against several people as a result of this wreck. See complete story in the January 5 edition. E-edition available.

UPDATED -- A fatal wreck on Highway 515 in Pickens County Monday afternoon closed traffic  in both directions a short distance from the Highway 108 intersection. According to information from the Pickens Sheriff's office, the Georgia State Patrol is still investigating and it may take a few days for them to sort through the information.

Coroner Kevin Roper said Timothy Ingram, 28, of Rydal was killed in the wreck. Ingram was an employee of an automotive shop and had been driving a customer’s Chevy Tahoe. Roper said the cause of the crash is not known at this point. However, he said nothing in the initial reports indicates that a vehicle malfunction was involved.

Initial reports at the scene by witnesses said only one car had wrecked, but others had stopped. However, information from the GSP indicates three vehicles were involved -- one that had been traveling northbound and two traveling southbound.

Besides the fatality, two other people were reported injured.

The wreck was not at any crossing or intersection.

Julie,

I was traveling north, when I saw the Tahoe become airborne and spinning. I could not tell if it was traveling North or South, and I am still not sure. The white pickup was traveling south, and the other vehicle was traveling North.

Seat belts? Editor--why not determine and stress the status of seat belts. Very rare someone is ejected that is wearing a seat belt.

Latest info suggests that the driver of the white pickup was [deleted], and rear ended the SUV, both headed South. The SUV lost control and flipped several times, landing in the median. Tim was ejected and hit a third car headed North, and then landed off the side of the North bound traffic. The person driving the North bound car [ edited is hospitalized]. Now can we all just pray for the family and put our curiosity to rest. A lot of people were involved and hurting.

Editor's Note: We've had a steady stream of posts and calls about this with all types of information that may or may not be right but we are going to hold off on posting or publishing until we get an official report. As of yesterday afternoon, the Jasper Police Chief said there had definitely been no arrests and he wasn't sure the investigation would be complete for several days. We will do a followup. One thing is clear, this is a tragedy that has touched the whole community. We also extend our prayers for all involved.

To Betty, how about thinking about the family before posting details like you did. You are a very inconsiderate person.

Betty is right. I had to watch Tim be laid to rest. He was a great friend to all of us. She's not being inconsiderate, everyone wants to know what happened so she told you. The family knows the details & thats what makes it harder for them to understand. All of us are havig a hard time. Please please please keep Tim's wife, daughters & whole family in your prayers. Theres a fund set up at the united community bank called the Tim Ingram children's fund, please donate if you can. You can donate at jasper, Bridgemill or Riverstone.

THE ARTICLE FOWKER WROTE STATES THE INVESTIGATION IS NOT COMPLETE; SO WHY STATE FACTS THAT ARE NOT TRUE? WHY DID THE WHITE PICKUP ONLY HAVE DAMAGE TO THE LEFT FRONT AND SIDE. THE OTHER PERSON WAS NOT HURT NOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. SO HOW DID THIS TRUCK REAR END THE SUV? DID THE SUV CLIP THE TRUCK WHICH STARTED THIS WRECK? [deleted]

I see that Fowler contines on giving information out, and then adding the same comments regarding Ingram, which I am sure he was a good person. But Fowler is out for blood it sounds. Good Old Boys maybe. The SCRT report is not complete which could change many things here. I think that the State Partol office would have been somewhat more professional to have said; "no comment at this time" we will answer all the questions when the reports come in from SCRT, along with the blood results. You are right you are not CSI, by no means.

It is my understanding the man that caused the wreck was in the country ILLEGAL! No insurance, No license, and now he is in jail at the expense of the US citizens. If we send him to Mexico, he will just return to the US. I am for the immigration law for this reason!! [Editor's Note: according to the arrest records he was here legally. He did have a Georgia license but it had been suspended. He bonded out of jail not long after he was arrested.]
