Join Storm and all the other furballs at the Pickens County Animal Shelter this weekend for volunteer day and “Yard Sale and Yard Crash.”
There’s a lot going on at the Pickens County Animal Shelter this weekend, when animal lovers are invited to participate in the monthly volunteer day or shop at the “Yard Sale and Yard Crash” to support the facility.
“The volunteer days are the last Saturday of each month,” said shelter director and Pickens County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandi Strawn. “We ask people to come out and bring their kids and they can spend time with the animals and interact with them.”
Strawn says volunteers who participate this Saturday, July 30, can walk, bathe and play with animals of their choice.
“What it does is allows the animals to interact more with people,” she said. “It helps them socialize and helps us get a feel for the animal. We can find out if they like kids or women, and it helps us determine the proper placement for them.”
Volunteers are invited to come visit from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Pickens County TEA Party will be at the shelter from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the same day for their Yard Sale and Yard Crash. All proceeds from the sale will go to support the animal shelter.
“The TEA Party has recently become a big supporter and they have gone above and beyond to help us,” Strawn said. “They’ve supplied us with food, litter and toys, and we are very thankful to them for everything they have done.”
For the “Yard Crash” portion of the event, the TEA Party is inviting you to “bring your yard tools and ideas to create an inviting façade for people who visit the shelter to adopt a pet,” it says in a TEA Party press release. “If you have shrubs or bulbs, we need them all. Let your neighbors see how "sweat equity" can actually help lower (or at least keep) our taxes where they are and help our local government to provide services we need without asking for higher taxes.”
