Famous 9/11 flag to come through Pickens County today

[Updated: 9/11 flag expected to arrive in Jasper around 4 p.m.]

The flag put up by firefighters at the Twin Towers in New York after after the September 11 attacks will pass through Pickens County tomorrow.

Fire Chief Bob Howard said they got late notice that the flag will come through on its way to Ellijay, where it will stay through the weekend.

“It’s the famous one seen in photos and images,” Howard said.

County emergency crews will provide an escort for it from the Cherokee County line and it will stop at Ingles between 3:15 p.m. and 4 p.m. before continuing on to Ellijay where it will stay over the weekend.

Howard said the time it will be at Ingles is an estimate as it’s hard to predict exactly when it will be there. “It won’t be there but a few minutes, but people are welcome to come and get pictures,” said Fire Chief Bob Howard.
