Event rescheduled for May 4th
Pickens County Fire & Rescue and the Jasper Fire Department will be hosting a night of fire and severe weather safety education in the Wal-Mart parking lot May 4 from 6-9 p.m.
This event is a fun way for kids to learn potentially life-saving information.
The safety day is a part of the Spring Safety Education Kick-Off, that Pickens County was selected to participate in by the Fire Safety Education Association. Personnel from the Association will begin visiting daycares, Headstart, elementary schools and middle schools Tuesday to teach kids about fire safety with puppet shows and clowns.
During the event on May 3, there will be fire trucks, police cars, ambulances, a helicopter, a severe weather safety house, a fire safety house, clowns, a puppet show and Smokey the Bear on hand to talk to the kids about fire safety. There will also be a car seat check performed by the Certified Safety Seat Technicians
Captain Shane Callahan of the Pickens County Fire Dept. explained that this was a new event in Pickens County, and, “We encourage everyone to attend.”
This event is being sponsored by: Pickens County Fire & Rescue, Jasper Fire & Rescue, Wal-Mart, Georgia Fire Safety Education Assn., Pickens County Sherriff’s Office, Georgia Foresty Commission, Jasper Police Dept., Airlife, Pickens County School System and VFIS/SE.
The main goal of this event is to educate kids and encourage them to use these techniques at home and to teach their families how to be safe, he said.
