Virginia Ingram Chapman, age 83 of Ball Ground, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at the Brian Center Health & Rehab.
She retired from H.D. Lee Company and was a member of Sharp Mountain Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verlan H. Chapman.
Survivors include her son, Randall (Nancy) Chapman, Canton; daughters, Rejune (Raymond) Edwards and Renee (Ladell) Chapman, all of Ball Ground; and sisters, Charlotte Sosebee and Melba Hales, both of Chamblee. Seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, from Sharp Mountain Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Ware, Greg Hamilton and Gary Cloer officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sharp Mountain Baptist Church, PO Box 41, Ball Ground, Ga. 30107. Mr. George Billy Patterson, age 73 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2011, at his residence with his loving family by his side.
Born Sept. 30, 1937, in Union County, Ga., he was the son of the late Arvil and Bessie Weaver Patterson. Mr. Patterson was also preceded in death by his sister, Flora Belle King; and brothers, Robert and Dan Patterson. He had served in the U.S. Army and worked as an appliance repairman with Atlanta Gas Light Company. He was a member of Mountain View Community Church in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Mary Anne Patterson, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Tim Owens, Roswell, Ga., and Sheri and Brad Baxter, Dallas, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Laura Patterson, Kennesaw, Ga.; grandchildren, Brian and Katy Patterson, both of Kennesaw; sisters, Sara Hudson, Marietta, Ga., and Roselle Arp, Morganton, Ga.; and brothers, Roey Patterson, Blue Ridge, Ga., Bruce and Larry Patterson, both of Blairsville, Ga., and Conrad Patterson, Morganton. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Greenway and Dr. Charles Sineath officiating. Interment followed in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. with military honors. Flowers were accepted, but the family requests donations be made to The Bill Patterson Ministries, 4524 Waleska Hwy. 108, Jasper, Ga. 30143.
Grady Chapman, Sr.
Grady Chapman, Sr., age 69 of Ball Ground, passed away on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011.
Mr. Chapman served in the U.S. Army and retired as the former owner and operator of Town and Country Towing. He was a member of the VFW, he loved playing the guitar and playing Santa Claus for the children at Christmas. Grady enjoyed antique cars and talking on amateur radio his handle was “Blue Diamond.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Turner Chapman; sons, Mark and Buck Chapman, Sr.; daughter, Casey Chapman; grandchildren, Buck Chapman, Jr. and Sarah Nichols. Survivors include his children, Barbara Padgett, Ball Ground, Susan Williams, Jasper, Rusty Chapman, Dawsonville, Robert Chapman, Ball Ground, Shannon Layne, Charleston, W.V., Brandon Grizzle, Talking Rock, and Morgan Kelley, Ball Ground; and sisters, Opal Alvey and Mary Jo Roberson, both of Murphy, N.C. Twenty-two grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great- grandchild and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Robert Chapman, Greg Foster and Scott Truitt officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Lorine Kincaid, age 76 of Waleska, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Northside Cherokee Hospital.
Survivors include her children, Henry Kincaid, Canton, Jimmy Kincaid, Rome, Bonnie Gibson, Tate, Brenda Chastain, Jasper, Peggy Mulkey, Dawsonville, Charlotte Dockery, Blue Ridge, and Mitchell Kincaid, Stockbridge; sister, Dorene James, Vidalia; and brother, Roger Botts, Vidalia. Seventeen grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 from the Gospel Temple with the Rev. Butch Roberts officiating. Interment followed at Cherokee Memorial Park.
Mr. Gene E. Wendt, age 82 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a sudden illness.
Born March 10, 1928 in Granite City, Il., Mr. Wendt was a U.S. Navy veteran and the owner of Gene Wendt Builders.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Wendt, Talking Rock; children, Traci Stone, Virginia Beach, Va., Gene Wendt, Jr. and Darnell Vonpoyle, both of Venus, Fl.; and brother, Bob Wendt, Crestview, Fl. Eight grandchildren also survive.
At his request, Mr. Wendt was cremated and no services were held. Roper Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper was in charge of arrangements.
Margaret Bradley Brown, age 91, previously of Decatur, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2011.
She primarily worked as an administrative assistant at Fernbank Science Center and DeKalb College-South Campus. She was an avid doll collector, lover of Boston Terriers, reader and painter. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Brown was predeceased by her husband, Warren Reid Brown. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Ron) Roseberry, Hiawassee, Ga.A, Peggy Marston, Warner Robins, Ga., Cathie (Wayne) NeSmith, Clayton, Ga., and Patsy (Richard) Rollins, Jasper, Ga.; and nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown is also survived by sisters, Evelyn McCleskey and Virginia Jenkins.
The funeral service was held at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill on Monday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. Interment was at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice, The Dream Foundation, 1100 Sherwood Park Drive, Suite 120, Gainesville, Ga. 30501.
Mrs. Edgel Howard
Mrs. Edgel Howard, age 78 of Jasper, Ga., passed early Thursday morning, Jan. 20, 2011, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Debra Howard, Panama City Beach, Fl., and Greg Howard, Jasper; and sister, Bessie Byess, Keithsburg Community. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 22, at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. A.W. Butch Roberts officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Donnie and Kenny Byess, Gene Wright, Gary Young, Randall Buchanan and Timmy Howard. The family did accept flowers or memorials may be made to Cagle Funeral Home to assist with the funeral expenses.
Patricia Diane Crowe, age 53 of Jasper, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at her residence.
She was a caring housewife and of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Crowe, Jasper; son, Brian Crowe, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Kristy and David Godfrey, Talking Rock; brother, Ricky Woodall, Canton; nephew, Shane Woodall, Woodstock; and grandchildren, Lacey and Amber Godfrey, Talking Rock.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Allen and Mike Ware officiating. Interment followed in the Sixes Methodist Church Cemetery.
Curtis Brannon, Sr.
Mr. Curtis E. Brannon, Sr., age 75 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at Kennestone Hospital.
Mr. Brannon served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired truck driver from Blankenship Transportation. Curtis loved fishing and music, having once had a bluegrass band, Lone Star. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Waleska.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Chadwick and Junior Brannon, both of Jasper, Michael and William Brannon, both of Waleska, Glen Brannon, Jasper, and David and Gary Brannon, both of Ellijay; siblings, Johnny Brannon, Reidsville, Betty Cleghorn, Quincy, Fl., Doodle Norton, Junior Norton and Pat Kentnor, all of Tallahassee, Fl., Lucretia Newborn, Madison, Ga., and Sissy Sarocco of Arizona Eighteen grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Jimmy Rampley and Travis Childers officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.
