Jo Ann Sims
Jo Ann Sims, age 51 of Ball Ground, died Monday, June 7, 2010, at her residence.
She was a set team leader for Acosta Foods and a member of Unity Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn Sims, Ball Ground; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jessica Sims, Talking Rock; father, William Whitey Huey, Blue Ridge; brothers, Timmy Huey, Blue Ridge, and David Huey, Cartersville; and sisters, Becky Simpson, Huron, Tn., and Sandy Buckner, Acworth. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Catherine Bridges
Mrs. Catherine Moody Bridges, age 82 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Ben Bridges, Jasper; and children, Randy Bridges, Kennesaw, Joan Stanley, Nelson, Melvin Bridges, Canton, Allen Bridges, Tate, Jane Hooks and Alisia Bridges, both of Kennesaw. Twenty-one grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

Ronald Horton
Roper Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Ronald Wayne Horton, age 51 of Dawsonville, who passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Kristina Horton, Dawsonville; children, Christopher and Tamara Horton, both of Atlanta, Christina Horton, Gainesville, Joseph France, Big Canoe, and Kelsie and Jennifer Horton, Dawsonville; mother, Dorothy C. Horton, Fayetteville; brothers, Anthony Horton, Fayetteville, and Jimmy Horton, Atlanta; and sister, Toni Jacobs, Fayetteville. Many grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at Foothills Community Church with the Rev. John Reale officiating.

Milford Bates
Mr. Milford Ford Bates, age 78 of Talking Rock died June 1, 2010.
Services were handled locally by Sharp Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oliver Springs Cemetery.

Gladys Bailey
Ms. Gladys Bailey, age 90 of Jasper, Ga., died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Heritage Healthcare in Jasper following a period of declining health.
Born April 18, 1920 in Cherokee County, Ga., Gladys was preceded in death by her sister, Kate Bailey Cochran; and a brother, Woodrow Bailey. Ms. Bailey was employed by Pickens Footwear and was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jasper.
Survivors include her sisters, Mary Bailey and Ruth Bailey, both of Jasper, and Lois Burleson, Ellijay, Ga.; niece, Ann Harley, Ellijay, Ga.; and nephew, Bill Cochran, Acworth, Ga.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Ray will officiate. Interment followed in Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Nina Hill
Nina Phyllis Mayes Hill, age 81 of Dawsonville, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
She was a member of Tate United Methodist Church where she served as lay speaker, Sunday School teacher and choir member. She also served on many committees and was always active in all areas of church life.
She was a member of the Kennesaw Chapter of the UDC and a member of the Andrew Hauser Chapter of the DAR until she was Founding Regent of the Sequoyah Chapter locally.
Mrs. Hill had been a nurse by profession, receiving her LPN from Marietta Vocational School and her RN with an associate?s degree from Clayton Junior College. She was employed for many years at the Tate Clinic working for Drs. Darnell and Boswell. She later worked at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and then as a private duty nurse. She was an avid gardener and loved to cook and preserve the fruits of her labor.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her parents, John Grover and Amma Adams Mayes; husband, Lloyd Amos Hill; and brothers and sisters, Cora Mae Mayes, Lucille Mayes Martin, John Frank Mayes, Nell Mayes Smith, Henry Benton Mayes and Martha Faye Mayes Greene.
She is survived by her children, Ronald Douglas Hill, Dawsonville, John David Hill, Ball Ground, and Phyllis Hill, Dawsonville; sister-in-law, Mayme Ellen Middleton Mayes, Macon, Ga.; and grandchildren, Sarah Hill Cheshire, Dawsonville, Amanda Hill Mull, Marble Hill, and Scarlett Hill Jarrett, York, S.C. Six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons also survive.
A memorial service will e held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19 at Tate United Methodist Church. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Myrtie Holbrook
Mrs. Myrtie Mae Holbrook, age 91 of Jasper, passed at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, Jasper, Wednesday afternoon, June 9, 2010.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.
The funeral service was held Friday, June 11 at 11 a.m. from Hightower Baptist Church (Cherokee County) with the Rev. Gerald Richards officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Jimmy Fann, Hess Franco, Keith Holmes, Curtis Roland, Jason Satterfield and Joe Satterfield II serving as pallbearers. Cagle Funeral in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Dorfman
Roper Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Thelma Stone Dorfman, age 88 of Alabama, formerly of Jasper, who passed away June 6, 2010 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Al.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fletcher W. Stone and William Dorfman.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Barbara Stone, Alabama; step-daughters, Toni and Pat Dorfman; grandchildren, Scott and Michelle Stone, Susan and Blake Kendrick, Keith Stone and Eliza Valk Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Morgann Stone and Stone and Jack Kendrick. Nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Randy Atkinson officiating.

Survivors include her husband, James Fox, Sr., Jasper; sons and daughter-in-law, James Fox, Jr., Arlington, Tx., and Steve and Kari Fox, Huntsville, Al.; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Fox Dyck and Chris Dyck, Lawrenceville, Ga., and Cynthia and Paul Green, Acworth; brother and sister-in-law, William L. and Henriette McGregor, Roswell, Ga.; grandchildren, Peter James, Jesse Joseph, Adam McGregor and Patrick Taylor Fox, David William Dyck, Kevin Bradley Green, Matthew James Dyck, Jaime Charlotte Fox and Amanda Elizabeth Green; and great-granddaughter, Rileigh Rae Fox.
A funeral Mass was held Tuesday morning, June 15 at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church with Father Charles Byrd officiating. Interment followed Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Pallbearers were: Adam and Patrick Fox, David and Matthew Dyck and Kevin Green.
