Clarence Hogwood, Jr.
Mr. Clarence Lee ?Johnny? Hogwood, Jr., age 63 of Kennesaw, Ga., died Tuesday, August 25, 2009.
Mr. Hogwood was born in Floyd County, Ga. on Sept. 10, 1945, son of the late Clarence Lee Hogwood, Sr. and Mary Lois Weems Hogwood. He graduated from Johnson High School and Berry College. Mr. Hogwood remained active with his high school Alumni. He owned and operated Accounting Data Systems. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hogwood was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Glen Hogwood.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha Tuck Hogwood to whom he was married on Nov. 8, 1963; son and daughter-in-law, William Brian and Kim Hogwood, Marion, Oh.; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh Ann and Keith Lomax of Dallas, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kristina Ashley Wharton and Brandon Keith Lomax, both of Dallas, Ga., and Dalton Adkins and Breonna Hogwood, both of Marion, Oh.; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas F. and Dorsie Nell Hogwood, Silver Creek, Ga.; and a sister, Linda Amonds of Austell, Ga.
A Celebration of Life was held Friday, August 28 at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Jess Harkins officiating. John Adam ?Pilgrim? Osborne, age 66 of Dayton, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Parkridge in Chattanooga.
He was born June 26, 1943 in Weehawken, N.J., the son of the late Clyde and Mae (Chiamese) Osborne. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee (Dills) Osborne; and daughter, Teresa Daniel.
John lived in Jasper for many years before moving to Dayton in 2000. He was the former owner of Associated Air in Jasper. He enjoyed golf and restoring antique vehicles. He served his country in the US Army, stationed in Greenland.
Survivors include his daughters, Ann (Gerald) Hammontree, Tunnel Hill, Ga., Karen (Ken) Boring, Naples, Fl., Michelle (Jeff) Holloway, Ellijay, Ga., and Sonji (Chris) Romine, Jasper, Ga. Ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday at noon from Vanderwall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Burial with military honors was held at Rhea Memory Gardens, followed by a white dove release.
Mather Cletus Garrett, age 94 of Ball Ground, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mae Garrett; children, Shirley Newberry, Ball Ground, Dorothy Giffing, Jasper, Sandra Grizzle, Ball Ground, Judy Cantrell, Jasper, Sam (Pat) Garrett, Ball Ground, and Patsy (Charlie) Ratford, Ellijay; and brother, Elmer Garrett, Dahlonega. Eighteen grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his son, Cletus Clifford Garret; sisters, Illar Evans and Bessie Towell; and brother, Ray Garrett.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 30 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Mike Harris and Shane Matthews officiating. Interment followed in the Burt Family Cemetery in Dawson County.
Mrs. Mary Baker, age 69 of Tate, GA, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009.
She was a member of Conns Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Hoyt Thomas Baker.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Danny Smith, Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Hanna Baker, Jasper, and Rev. Danny and Pam Baker, Canton; grandchildren, Craig Smith and Hannah and Micah Baker; sister, Geraldine Jones, Roswell; sister-in-law, Maureen Kirby, Smyrna; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Patsy and Jerry Wilson, Florida, Kathryn and Skip Weiss, Canton, and Nancy and Bobby Gravitt of Jesup, Ga. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, August 30 at 4 p.m. at New Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Boling, Steve Chadwick, Barry Payne and Jerry Cantrell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Elfriede Mason, age 78 of Jasper, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009 at Heartland Hospice House in Cartersville.
Survivors include her daughter, Eva Garrett, Ball Ground; sister, Herta Watson, Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Krissy Miller, Jason Garrett and Tommy Greene; and great-grandchildren, Sabrina Lawrence, Summer Michelle, Hope and Morgan Garrett.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 31 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Hoyt Jenkins officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper. Pallbearers were: Tommy and Adam Green, Jason Garrett and Robert Miller.
Mr. Bryan Keith Silvers, age 48 of Marble Hill, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Atlanta Medical Center.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Misty and Justin Burnett, Marble Hill, and Beverly and Jason Burnett, Canton; sister, Martha Ann McClure, Calhoun; and uncle, Gary Silvers. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Silvers was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Silvers.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1 from Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Leroy Kelley and Huey Holloway officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Anthony, Luke and Bryan Silvers, Gary, Russell and Tadpole Evans and Fred Buchanan. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jessica Brooke Woodward, 20 years old, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Grady Memorial Hospital following injuries received in an automobile accident.
Jessica was born Sept. 7, 1988 in Whitfield County. She was the daughter of Cayce and Tina Woodward.
Jessica was preceded in death by her father, Cayce Woodward, and grandfather, Gene Woodward.
Jessica was a member of Crossroads of Life Baptist Church and a 2007 graduate of Crossroads Christian Academy.
Survivors include her mother, Tina Faber, and step-father, Mark Faber; grandparents, Bill and Gloria Hawkins, Patsy and Eddie Bryant and Nath and Debra Jordan. Aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces also survive.
The funeral service was held August 26 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Ray and Evangelist Randy Southerland officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Jordan Moody, Zach Peardon, Caleb Ray, Daniel Collett, Jaron Gilbert and Paul Davis.
