Benjamin Cain, III
Benjamin Guy Cain, III, U.S. Navy retired, age 71 of Jasper, Ga., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a period of declining health.
Born July 1, 1937 in Huntington, W.V., he was the son of the late Benjamin Guy Cain, Jr. and Lilloise Hopkins Cain. Mr. Cain retired from the U.S. Navy having served during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Gerri J. Cain, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon C. and Randall Wofford, Jasper; son, David Cain, Copalis Beach, Wa.; granddaughter, Katherine Wofford, Jasper; grandsons, Robert Wofford and Kevin Cain, both of Jasper, Nick Cain, Phoenix, Ar., and Zachary Cain, Copalis Beach; step-daughters, Micki Torres and Shelli Langlois, both of Mansfield, Tx., and Debbie Vazquez, Arlington, Tx.; step-son, James Scott, Gainesville, Ga.; and mother-in-law, Marge Martin, Ft. Worth, Tx. Several other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 15 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mary Johnson officiating. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. from the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. with Chaplain Joe Mills officiating. Graveside rite was conducted by the U.S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, 202 Griffith Road, Jasper, Ga. 30143.

Barbara Blalock
Mrs. Barbara Ann Blalock, age 59 of Nelson, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2009. She was a retired nurse and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her spouse, Bobby Blalock, Nelson; sons, Neal, A.L. and Kevin Harvill, all of Dothan, Al., and Jaime Nelson, Flint, Mi.; daughter, Amy Harvill, Lakeland, Fl.; mother, Juanita Tomberlin, Winterhaven, Fl.; sisters, Margie Minton, Winterhaven, Pat Lane, King, N.C., and Jewel Jenkins, Haynes City, Fl.; brother, James Tomberlin, Winterhaven; and step-sons, Ken, Keith and Kevin Blalock. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tim Logan officiating. Interment followed in Waleska Church of God Cemetery.

George Piasecki
George J. Piasecki, age 86 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at the Terrace at Riverstone Assisted Living Center.
He was retired from Unilever Food Products and was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Piasecki, Jasper; daughter, Gayle Horning, DeLand, Fl.; step-sons, Bruce Fick, Jasper, and Roy Fick, Roswell; and brother, James Piasecki, Florida. One grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four step-great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 from Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church with Father Frank Richardson officiating. Interment followed in Georgia National Cemetery. South Canton Funeral Home and Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Brenda Young
Ms. Brenda Buchanan Young, age 53 of Ellijay, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include her boyfriend, William Waters; sons and daughter-in-law, Andy and Tiffany Young, Talking Rock, and Adam Young, Jasper; brothers, Michael and Drew Buchanan, both of Marble Hill; sisters, Regina Buchanan, Talking Rock, and Ramona Walden, Marble Hill; and grandchildren, Trevor and Landen.
The funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Lathery officiating. Interment followed in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery. Helen Wilkey
Mrs. Helen K. Perry Wilkey, age 50 of Ellijay, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie Wilkey, Ellijay; mother, Dumpy Perry, Mississippi; and sister, Shirley Ash, Chatsworth. Two nieces and one nephew also survive.

Syble Reece
Ms. Syble Pauline Reece, age 83 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at Mountain Health Care in Jasper.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Trammell and Linda Reece and Richard and Ann Reece, all of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Marcie and Jerrold Young, Jasper; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Reece, Canton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph, Jr. and Betty Tatum, Oakman, and Jordan and Elizabeth Tatum, Rudbud. Twelve grandchildren 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive. Ms. Reece was preceded in death by her husband, Junior; and sons, Travis and Carmace Reece.
The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. from Ludville Church of God with the Revs. Bill Tatum, Jerrold Young and Lynn Pirkle officiating. Interment was held at the church cemetery. Lois Pieper
Mrs. Lois Pieper, age 89 of Jasper, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009 at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Kirk Kondos, with Art, her devoted husband of 61 years, at her side.
Mrs. Pieper was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Guttenberg, Ia. to the late William J. and Gertrude Ening Mielke. Her brother, Glenn Mielke; son, Phillip Pieper; and son-in-law, Henry Reynolds, also preceded her in death.
After graduating from St. Olaf College and Western Reserve Nursing School, Lois proudly served her country during WW II in the U.S. Army as a nurse in the Philippines. While working as a nurse in a crippled children?s camp in Wisconsin, she met her future husband, Arthur Pieper of Chicago, Il. In 1947 they married and settled down to raise their family of four in Alexandria, Va.
In 1977, on their retirement, Lois and Art moved to Luray, Va. where she worked as a registered nurse at Montview Nursing Home and became a very active volunteer with Page One helping the disadvantaged. Later in 1998, when they relocated to Woodstock, Va., she volunteered with Blue Ridge Hospice. In 2003 she and Art moved to Mallard Landing Retirement Community in Salisbury, Md. to be near her daughter Pam. During all these years, Lois, a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, was an avid bird-watcher and nature lover with a special love of the mountains. In 2008, Lois and Art moved with Pam and Kirk to an in-law apartment in their daughter and son-in-law?s home in the North Georgia mountains. They were especially grateful for the care she received from Heartlite Hospice Care of Ellijay, Ga.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Arthur Pieper, Jasper; daughters and son-in-law, Pam and Kirk Kondos, Jasper, and Paige Reynolds, St. Louis, Mo.; son, Paul Pieper, Chicago, Il.; and daughter-in-law, Karen LaFleur Pieper, New Preston, Ct. Seven grandchildren also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Heartlite Hospice Care or the American Lung Association. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate her life. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dimple Mulkey
Mrs. Dimple Mulkey, age 80 of Ludville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Mulkey; brothers, Cisro, Waldo and Rosco Stone, all of Ludville; and sisters, Ader and Arewill Mulkey and Eruma Gene Stone, all of Ludville. Her sister, Rosalee Young, preceded Mrs. Mulkey in death.

Claude Padgett
Mr. Claude W. Padgett, age 65 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at his residence.
Survivors include his mother, Ora Lee Padgett, Jasper; sons and daughter-in-law, Dolphus Padgett, Loganville, and Clay and Robin Padgett, Canton; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheri and Doug Ghorley, Canton, and Angie and David McFarland, Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Teresa Padgett, Jasper, Larry and Janice Padgett, South Carolina, Jerry and Brenda Padgett, Joe Padgett and Neal Padgett, all of Jasper; and sister and brother-in-law, Wilma Dean and James Barnhill, Trustville, Al. Thirteen grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Henry W. Collette (Buck), age 68 of Canton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at Heritage Health Care in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Collette, Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kim Collette, Jasper; step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Greg and Cindy Stover and Todd and Amy Stover, all of Canton; daughters, Tami Collette, Jasper, and Laura Billingsly, Cumming; brothers, Willie and Ernie Collette, both of Jasper, Coy Collette, Tate, and Clayton Collette, Hobsound, Fl.; and sisters, Christine Yarbrough and Dot Childers, both of Jasper, Louise Horton, Lilburn, and Mary Frances Collette, Augusta. Ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. John Goode, age 69 of the Jerusalem Community, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Mrs. Frances Hullquist, age 84 of Talking Rock, passed Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton.
Survivors include her sons, Gary Hullquist, Talking Rock, and Timothy Hullquist, New York; daughter, Karen Newman, Ringgold, Ga.; brothers, Jack Gent, Tunnell Hill, Ga., and Gene Gent, Norman, Ar.; half-brothers, Homer Etherton, Yamhill, Or., and Harold Etherton, McManville, Or.; and sisters, Mary Jo Randall-Soules and June McDonald, both of Quartzite, Az.
