Mrs. Jewell Christine Bailey, age 82 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at Heritage Health Care in Jasper following a period of declining health.
Born June 6, 1927 in Pickens County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Emmett Edgar and Eula Jane Roper Fields. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Howard Bailey. Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Randy Rich, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Teresa Bailey, Talking Rock. Four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Earl Gilstrap and Elder Wayne Clayton officiating. Interment followed in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jim, Ethan, Jake and Ronnie Fields and Eric and Kirk Rich.
Mrs. Yvetta Jones, age 82 of Jasper, Ga., passed at Brian Health & Rehab Center in Canton, Ga. early Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 2009.
Survivors include her son, Greg Jones, Jasper; sister, Ramona White, Phoenix, Ax.; granddaughter, Rebecca Jones, and step-grandson, Miles Phillips.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Entombment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum with Steve Marsh, Rick and Brent Harlan, Carl Darnell, Michael Weaver and Victor Jacobs serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Linda Faye Silvers, age 66 of Jasper, Ga., passed late Saturday evening, Nov. 14, 2009 at Heritage Health Care-Blue Ridge.
Survivors include her brother, Bobby Spence, Canton; sisters, Sandra Haynes, Ball Ground, and Brenda Chambers, Jasper; and friends, Paulette and Leon Richards, Tate.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Padgett officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Terry and Jody Haynes, Jeff Corbin, Brian Spence, Scott Parish and Tyler Pendley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Logan Millsaps.
Mr. Teddy Lamar Scoggins, age 51 of Ranger, Ga., departed this life Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Teddy was born Oct. 14, 1958 in Gordon County, Ga., a son of the late William Layfette and Edna Faye Carr Scoggins. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Earl Dean and Ray Layfette Scoggins; and a sister, Betty Jo Scott.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Scoggins; daughters, Kristian Faye and Ashlee Paige Scoggins. all of Ranger; honorary daughter and son-in-law, Nickie and Robbie Kelly; honorary granddaughter, Mikalah Kelly; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marsha and Clarence Bo Collum and Dianne Corn, all of Cartersville, Ga., and Joyce and James Kessleburg, Fairmount, Ga.; honorary father, Glenn Scoggins; and honorary brothers and sisters, Carl Scoggins, Audrey and Wallace ?Bobo? Young, Travis and Judy Scoggins and Ronnie and Sandra Scoggins. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous special friends also survive.
The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Scoggins was held Friday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. from Black Knob Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Hibbert officiating. He was laid to rest in the church cemetery with the Rev. Keith Gibson in charge of graveside rites. Donnie Stone, Kyle Young, Chris Stone, Phillip Young, Tony Fountain and Dale Tatum served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Richard and Clay Townsend and Robbie Kelley.
Charles Wayne ?Herk? Childers, age 31 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.
He was born in Whitfield County on May 29, 1978, the son of Charles and Tammy Allen Childers, and was self-employed in the construction industry. Herk was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Joseph Childers, in September 2009; and a grandfather, Hilburn Childers.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, Charles and Sherrie Childers, Calhoun; mother and step-father, Tammy Allen Hall and Richie, Dalton; daughters, Breanna D. Childers Padgett and Chrissie M. Childers; brother, Timothy Chad Childers, Calhoun; sister, Tonnie Lynn Childers, Calhoun; and grandparents, Jessie Sewell, Mozelle Childers and Joanna Allen. Aunts, uncles and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with the Revs. Bob Oesterle and Lloyd Bowers officiating. Interment followed in West Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Steven Sewell, Bryan Dobson, Jerry Lee Childers, Rossie Thomas, Mat Hillhouse, Steven Greenway and Brandon Sewell.
Mr. David Kent, age 68 of Marble Hill, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 at Emory Healthcare-Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Fran Kent, Marble Hill; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Paulette and Perry and Katie Parker, Marble Hill, and Carolyn and Ronnie Foster, Gainesville.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 from Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Cory Rich and Steve Chadwick officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Clara Mae Elston
Mrs. Clara Mae Mathews Elston, age 79 of the Yellow Creek Community, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Elston, Yellow Creek; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and June Mathews, Dawson County; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Garsell, Yellow Creek, Carol Mathews and Wanda and Marcus Walls, all of Dawson County, and Dina and Randall Densmore, Four Mile Community; brother, James Whitsell, Yellow Creek; and sisters, Eunice Johnson and Betty Faye Ellis, both of Yellow Creek, Shirley Frix, Dawson County and Voncile Moser, Martha Sue Whitsell and Amma Dell Whitsell, all of Jasper. Seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 from Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Dawson County with the Revs. Chris White and Gary Keown officiating. Mrs. Mary Lee Beasley, age 71 of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at her residence.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Traci Beasley, Talking Rock; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Charles Beasley, Talking Rock; brothers-in-law, Carter Owen, Canton, and Quinton Beasley, Jasper; sisters-in-law, Colleen and Ovalene Wofford and Blanche Beasley, all of Jasper, Laverne Beasley, Ball Ground, and Mary Sue Beasley, Canton; and granddaughters, Taylor and Tiffany Beasley. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Cloer officiating. Interment followed in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jeremy Jones, Dustin and Nathan Hamby, Anthony Taylor, Christopher Beasley, Matthew Morris, Josh Cantrell and Dylan Padgett. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to help with funeral expenses.
Mrs. Norma Jean Ingram of Cumming, born Oct. 1, 1931 in Kinston, Ga. (Bartow County) to the late Henry Lewis and Annie Mae Cook Young, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009.
Mrs. Ingram was a member of Ball Ground United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred L. Ingram; sister, Virginia (Gin) Young Hawkins; brothers, Albert Henry, Joe and Robert Young.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Lauri and Quentin Evans, Cumming, and Connie Ingram, Canton; sons and daughter-in-law, Randall and Beth Ingram and David G. Ingram, all of Ball Ground; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Valjean Young, Dunwoody, and Jack Young, Long Island, N.Y.; and grandsons and granddaughter-in-law, Adam and Katie Evans, Dawsonville, and Kerry Holcomb, Ball Ground. A number of other relatives also survive.

Mrs. Vanessa Maxine Akins, age 51 of Ball Ground, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry E. Akins, Sr.; father, Jack Knight; sister, Mary Sizemore; and brother David Knight.
Survivors include her daughter Velvie Akins, Cumming; son, Jerry E. Akins, Jr., Cumming; step-daughter, Janet Smith, Michigan; step-son, Jerry Michael and wife Jennifer Akins, Cumming; mother, Joyce Knight, Cumming; 10 grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Shelia Knight, Ball Ground; and boyfriend, Elmer Evans, Ball Ground. A number of other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. from Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Coffey officiating. Interment followed in Sharon Cemetery.
