Roger Dickerson
Mr. Roger Dickerson, age 50 of Canton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009.
Mr. Dickerson was a bus driver with the Cherokee County Board of Education. He was Baptist.
Survivors include his daughters, Denise Jones and Amanda Dickerson, both of Canton; sisters, Patricia Rodriguez, Blue Ridge, Kathy Teague and Rejohnna ?Dee? Lathem, both of Canton; brother, James Dickerson, Jasper; and grandchildren, A.J. and Aaron Jones. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Loner and Bishop Lance Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sharon Howard
Mrs. Sharon McCoy Howard, age 45 of Cartersville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009.
Mrs. Howard was employed with Chart Industries in Ball Ground.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Howard, Cartersville; children, Kayce Massey, Ranger, and Dustin Massey, Marble Hill; step-children, Chruchelle and Codie Howard, both of Cartersville; sister, Carol Lawson, Jasper; brothers, James and Steven McCoy, both of Waleska, Terry Lee McCoy, Canton, and Jimmy and Jeffrey McCoy, both of Jasper; and step-brother, Bobby McCoy, Tennessee. Two grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Clent Boling officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park.

Velma Grimes
Velma Jean Bryant Grimes, age 76, passed away Sept. 7, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her sons, Bobby and Tracy Grimes, Cartersville, daughters-in-law, Melinda and Kim Grimes; grandchildren, Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez, Atlanta, Dallas Corbitt, Texas, SSgt. John Grimes, McGuire AFB, N.J., and Tracy Grimes, Jr., Cartersville; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Corbitt, Joshua Grimes, Miranda Dominguez, Dillon Grimes and Daniel Dominguez.
Velma was born in Pickens County on Dec. 17, 1932 to Stanley and Emeliese Bryant. After graduating from Pickens County HS, Velma moved to Atlanta and worked as a typist. There she met her lifelong love, John Robert Grimes. They were married on May 30, 1952 and raised three children in Cobb County. Velma was passionate about crafting, gardening and camping, and was an active volunteer with the Cub/Boy Scouts Atlanta Area Council.
In their retirement years, she and Robert ran a flea market booth in Acworth where they made dozens of friends. Loved ones will remember her strong spirit and unfailing dedication to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Grimes, daughter, Dolores Grimes Corbitt, and sister, Elene Bryant Rich. She also leaves behind her brother, Elmo Carl Bryant, Swainsboro; brother- in-law, Johnny Rich, Jasper, and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
The family received visitors to celebrate and remember her life on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville. The service was held at 11 a.m. in the Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 10 with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Interment followed at Rolling Hills Cemetery, Acworth.

Mabel Bryant
Mrs. Mabel Bryant, age 80 of Jasper, Ga., died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at her daughter?s home following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 23, 1928 in Cherokee County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Polly Alice Poole Bruce.She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Bryant. Mrs. Bryant had worked as a house parent at Georgia Highlands and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Cathy Bryant, Jasper, and Janice Thomas, Annaconda, Mt.; sons, Douglas Bryant, Jasper, and Tommy Bryant, Canton; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Elaine Hitt, Jasper, and Ruth Ray, Holly Springs. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Von Hinton officiating. Interment followed in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: David Scott, Billy Westbrook, Richard, Terry and Dwight Bryant and Jimmy Hitt. Geneva Wood
Mrs. Geneva Wood, age 70 of Ball Ground, Ga., died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at Wildwood Healthcare Center following an extended illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1939 in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Hubert Boling and Mary Pearl Cavender. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Wood. Mrs. Wood was a homemaker and member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Becky Stahl, Jasper; son, Dennis Neal Wood, Ball Ground; grandchildren, Brandy, Brian and Crystal Wood and Nick Rider; great-grandchildren, Bryston Mathews, Jackson Shutts, Kenslie Wood, Issac, Ivy and Kylah Chatman; sister, Linda Reece, Ball Ground; and brother, Michael Boling, Ball Ground. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13 from Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Ball officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Brian Wood, Nick Rider, Greg Kelly, Scottie Reece, Steven Boling and Clifton Jordan.

Jewell Ray
Mrs. Jewell Ray, age 79 of Tate, passed Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Emory Ray, Tate;sons, Jimmy and Hoyt Henson, both of Marble Hill, James R.D. Henson, Jasper, Johnny Henson, Talking Rock, Jimmy Ray, Tate, William Ray, Lilburn, Eugene Ray, Ellijay, and Allen Ray, Jasper; daughters, Mattie Whitsell, Yellow Creek Community, Lisa Hughes, Virginia Beach, Va., Sandra Ray, Dawson County, Dolores Jones and Melissa Violet, both of Tate; and sister, Imogene Walker, Hickory Flat. Thirty-five grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild also survives.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 from Bethel Tabernacle with the Revs. Robert Jarvis and Larry Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Jasper. Stanley Stone
Mr. Stanley Stone, age 51 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009 in Sparta, Ga. following a sudden illness.
Born July 3, 1958 in Pickens County, Mr. Stone had worked as a heavy equipment operator with Noland Contracting.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Stone, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Sallie and Allen Bozeman, Peabody, Ma.; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Stone and Kasea Zeamer, Jasper; grandchildren, Erin Bozeman and Addison and Abigail Stone; parents, Jack and Ann Stone, Jasper; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky and Sue Stone, Marble Hill, and Scotty and Tamela Stone, Jasper; and mother-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Satterfield, Marble Hill. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Alice Thuma
Mrs. Alice Marie Thuma, age 82 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, August 31, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 12, 1926 in Little Rock, Ar., she was the daughter of the late Algeron Parker and Florence Marie Roland Vaughn. She was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Neal Thuma. Mrs. Thuma was a homemaker and attended Jasper United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Les Thuma, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Lesley and Jeff Floyd, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Dana Thuma, Jasper; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Cox, New York, Mary Forrey, Idaho, and JoAnn Swartout, Texas. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
At her request, Mrs. Thuma was cremated and a memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Jeff Floyd was the speaker. A private family interment of the cremains was at Lake Forest Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that donations be made to the Georgia Chapter of COPS, 142 Clubhouse Dr., Kennesaw, Ga. 30144.

Danny Redmon
Danny Redmon, age 58 of Jasper, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Redmon, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Terri Redmon, Florida, and Michael and Diane Fent and Philip and Julianne Fend, all of Michigan; brothers, Paul Redmon, Arizona, and James Redmon, Nevada. Nine grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Darby Huey Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Hecht officiating. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Rose Mary Little
Rose Mary Hitt Little, age 76 of Dawsonville, died Monday Sept. 14, 2009 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 20, 1932 in Pickens County to the late Joseph P. and Connie Jarrett, she had lived in Dawson County for the past 22 years, having moved from Cherokee County. Mrs. Little was a homemaker and member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. She attended Tate High School where she excelled in basketball. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Little; daughter, Deborah Rose Hitt; and grandson, Jamey Kent.
Surviving are her children, William and Peggy Hitt and Pam and Andy Patterson, all of Dawsonville, Terry and Luteen Hitt, Jasper, and Jo Ann and Jimmy Black, Fitzgerald. Eleven grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. from the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Kenny Dacus and Keith Poss officiated. Interment followed in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
