Ruby McCollum
Ms. Ruby Jones McCollum passed away late Tuesday night, May 5, 2009, in a local hospital. She was 98 years old.
Ms. McCollum was born August 7, 1910 in Pickens County, Ga., the daughter of the late James S. and Linda McClure Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mac McCollum; sister, Jewell Medlin; nephews, Fred Medlin and Roy Medlin; and a niece, Evelyn Medlin Hudson. She was a member of Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church in Jasper and was retired from Bank of America. She is survived by a niece, Gennie Medlin, Wrightsville; nephew, U.U. Hudson, Fort Valley; great-nieces and nephews, Jimmy Medlin, Cumming, Linda Pool, Wrightsville, Roy Medlin, Winston Salem, N.C., Susan Barfield and Carol Hartley, both of Perry, Nathan, Caleb and Jacob Pool, all of Wrightsville, Mary Beth Jager, Cumming, Reagan Brooks, Kings Mountain, N.C., Tyler Medlin, Macon, Stefan Medlin, Winston Salem, N.C., Brian Hartley, Beth Barfield, Kyle Hartley and Holly Hartley, all of Perry.

Cleve Clark
Mr. Cleve Clark, age 91 of Jasper, Ga., died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a period of declining health.
Born June 7, 1917 in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Mack and Odell Fowler Clark. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eula Weaver Clark; and son, Ken Clark. Mr. Clark had retired after 50 years from Canton Textile, was a US Army World War II veteran and a member of the North Canton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Shelba and Billy Hales, Jasper; grandchildren and spouses, Keith and Diane Hales and Kim Ivy, all of Jasper, and Amy and Greg Nyhus, Canton, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Chad Ivy and Kelly Hales; and great-great-grandchildren, Shawn Smith. Other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m Saturday, May 9 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bobby Seagers and Joey DuBois officiating. Interment followed in Macedonia Memorial Park. Pallbearers were: Keith Hales, Chad Ivy, Jeff Adams, Jerry and Terry Clark and Billy and Jackie Weaver.

Gloria Hardy
Mrs. Gloria S. Hardy, age 78 of Jasper, Ga., passed early Friday morning, May 8, 2009 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Donald Sealey, Honolulu, Hi.; beloved friend, Kaisha Duncan, Jasper; beloved dog, Bear; grandchildren, Thomas Christopher Hyde and Tracie, Chatsworth, Melanie McBride and Jimmie, Atlanta, and Adam Dickerson and Nichole, Macon; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Christopher and Lydia Hyde. Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Reid Hyde and Jesse Hardy; and son, Thomas Richard Hyde.
A memorial service was held Monday, May 11 at Cool Springs Baptist Church in Tate with the Rev. Steve Wigington officiating. Interment followed in Green Wood Cemetery in Atlanta. Christina Brandt
Mrs Christina Brandt, age 58 of Fairmount, passed away Saturday evening, May 9, 2009 at Floyd Medical Center in Rome.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Amanda Holmes, Fairmount; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Gary Roberts, Virginia and Robert DelLaRosa and Becky Kanicki, all of Michigan; loving dog, Zulu; and grandson, Bryce Holmes. Two nieces and nephews also survive.
The family had visitation Monday, May 11 from noon until 9 p.m. After visitation Mrs. Brandt was cremated. No memorial service is planned at this time. The family requests instead of flowers to please make donations to help with funeral expenses. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Dougherty
Dennis Wendel Dougherty, beloved husband, father and overall great guy, peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, May 8, 2009 at the age of 68.
Born in East Orange, N.J. in 1941, Dennis grew up in the mountain lakes region of New Jersey before attending the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Upon his graduation in 1963, Dennis served four years in the US Air Force as a Personnel Officer in Bangor, Me. before embarking on a long and prosperous career as a senior advertising sales executive for magazines like Look, Georgia, Street & Smith and House & Garden. He became a ?southerner? when he moved his family to Tucker, Ga. in 1969 and starting calling Jasper ?home? in 2000 after semi-retiring from the print advertising sales world.
Dennis actively participated in his family?s lives as coach, mentor and very supportive fan while enjoying his photography, gardening and a round of golf every chance he could.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rita Dougherty, Bent Tree; his son, daughter-in-law and their children, Peter, Vicky, Grant and Nicholas Dougherty, all of Bent Tree; daughter, son-in-law and their children, Lisa, Don, Jacob and Jenna Malcolm, all of Cumming; and a large number of special and supportive family and friends.
The family will be holding a private memorial for Dennis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) to honor Dennis? wonderful and fulfilled life.

Evelyn Tapp
Mrs. Evelyn A. Tapp, age 80 of Jasper, Ga., died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Canton Nursing Center in Canton, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born August 23, 1928 in Cobb County, she was the daughter of the late James N. and Curtis Hill Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Chester Tapp. Mrs. Tapp had worked as a drug store clerk and was a member of Jasper United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Judy Tapp, Jasper. Other relatives also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Claude Smithmire officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta, Ga.

Alvin Densmore
Mr. Alvin Earl Densmore, age 55 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Friday, May 8, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 9, 1953 in Pickens County, he was the son of the late James William Densmore and Pauline Wheat Born. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Densmore. Mr. Densmore had worked in construction and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sue Densmore, Talking Rock; daughters, Mary Densmore, Talking Rock, and Beth Densmore, New Jersey; sons, Chester Densmore, Talking Rock, and Steve Densmore, New Jersey; sister, Ivanell Cooper, Rocky Face, Ga.; and step-father, Styles Lee Born, Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 11 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Terry Dean and Randy Weaver officiating. Interment followed in Coal Mountain Baptist Church in Cumming. Pallbearers were: Richard Ingram, David Gilreath, Justin Dean, Robert Hancock, Ben and Pressley Wheat.

Marian Howell
Miss Marian Louise Howell, age 99 of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Grandview Healthcare Center in Jasper, following a period of declining health.
Born Jan. 22, 1910 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Dillard and Carrie Atherton Howell. Miss Howell was a homemaker and was the oldest member of Jasper United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her cousins, Dub and Janette Lawson, both of Jasper, and Helen Atherton, Atlanta; and special cousin, Al Lawson, Jasper. Several nieces also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m Tuesday, May 12 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Max Caylor and Charles O. Walker officiating. Interment followed in Jasper City Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Jasper UMC, 85 W Church St., Jasper, Ga. 30143.

Cecil Clapp, Jr.
Mr. Cecil E. Clapp, Jr., of Jasper died May 9, 2009 at his home in Bent Tree.
Born in Selma, Al. Dec. 28, 1938, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil E. Clapp, Sr. He graduated from Decatur High School and received his BA from David Lipscomb College and an MA from Middle Tennessee State University. For 30 years he passed on his love of history to his students at Chamblee High School while he simultaneously owned and operated a house painting business. At the end of his teaching career, his passion for history and collecting, as well as his skills as a craftsman, led him to open an antique shop where he also refinished furniture.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed trap shooting, fishing and spending summers at his family?s home in Maine. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, generous person, always a scholar and a gentleman.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Melinda Clapp, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and David Crews, Memphis, Tn.; son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Ann Clapp, Nashville, Tn.; step-daughter: Laura L. Moakler, Atlanta; sister: Laurel Becky Clapp, Birmingham, Al.; grandsons: Patrick Williams and James David Thurman, Memphis; and granddaughter, Laurel Ann Clapp, Nashville.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, May 13 at 2 p.m. from Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with Terry R. Burress of Northside Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed at Lake Forest Memorial Park.
