Mrs. Thelma Fay Gaydon, age 75 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her spouse, Silas Gaydon, Jasper; and sons, William Thomas Gaydon, Lavonia, and David Ricky Gaydon, Jasper. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Gaydon was cremated. Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. John Daniel Overla, age 47 of Jasper, passed Friday morning, Feb. 20, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Surviving are the wife, Sandra Adams Overla, Jasper; father, John Overla, Sr., Tennessee; son, Nathan Shores Overla, Jasper; sisters, Leota Bittner, April McCreery and Cathy Overla, all of Michigan, and Sheila Lolppo, Texas; aunt, Jolen Martinez, Michigan; and grandchildren, Cody Turner and Samantha Crocker.
The family held a memorial visitation Monday, Feb. 23 from 2-4 p.m. at Cagle Funeral Home and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Barbara Mary Bice, age 59 of Canton, Ga., passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at Piedmont Hospital.
Survivors include her son, Steven Bice, Biloxi, Ms.; brothers, Joe Pomes III, Jasper, and Anthony Pomes, Covington; and sister, Linda Birkhoff, Roswell, Ga.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. from Darby Huey Funeral Home, Canton. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery in Blairsville, Ga. with Deacon Charlie Carignan officiating. Mr. James Flathers, age 75 of Fairmount, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Flathers, Fairmount; son, Jeffery Flathers, Fairmount; daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie Flathers, Lisa Wilkie, Sheila and Junior Hancock, Paula and Tony Peace, all of Fairmount; Carolyn and Jackie Bagley, Adairsville; Donna and Lynn Wheeler, Ball Ground, Amy and Chad Thacker, Jasper, and Becky and Todd Dobson, Hill City Community; and sisters, Melrose Norton, Canton, and Myrna Broviak and Melba Gomes, both of California. Twenty grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Flathers was preceded in death by brothers, Merlin and Truman Flathers.
The funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Rembert Hancock and Luke Wheeler officiating. Interment was in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Chad Thacker, Todd Dobson, Kelley Bagley, Mark and Brandon Pack, Casey Loudermilk and Kevin Reddin.
Ms. Violet H. Leonard, age 90 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include her niece, Catherine Taylor, Blairsville, Ga.; and great-nephew, Randy Taylor, Tunnel Hill, Ga.
A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerry Peele, Hoyt Jenkins and Chip Wilson officiating. Interment of the cremains will be held at a later date at Spring Place Cemetery in Murray County. The family requests donations be made to Jasper United Methodist Church or Spring Place Cemetery.
Mr. Joseph ?Clyde? Bridges, age 61 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at the Metropolitan Hospice in Marietta, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born July 8, 1947 in Washington, Ga., he was the son of the late Mark, Sr. and Laura Moore Bridges. Mr. Bridges was a US Army veteran having served in Vietnam.
Survivors include his sisters, Minnie J. Howell, Margaret Love and Glenda B. Finch, all of Atlanta, Laura Mae Johnson, Miami, Fl., Emma Jean Veal, Sandersville, Ga., and Willieaiter Hill, Milledgeville, Ga.; brothers, Mark Bridges, Jr., Jasper, George W. Bridges, Woodstock, and Henry Bridges, Sandersville, Ga.; and God-son, Sidney Hooks, Jasper. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20 from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Morgan officiating. Interment followed in Georgia National Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Kenneth Petty, age 71 of Jasper, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta following a period of declining health.
Born May 1, 1937 in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Clifford and Lassie Holloway Petty. Mr. Petty was a US Army veteran. He was self-employed, doing construction work.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Petty, Jasper; daughter, Cheryl Lynne Petty Martin, Jasper; son, Michael Anthony Petty, Marble Hill, Ga.; grandchildren, Casey and Zach Petty, both of Marble Hill, Brittany Melissa and Kristin Brooke Martin, both of Jasper; sister, Mary Martin, Austell; and brother, Paul Petty, Talking Rock. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Mrs. Helen Evans McArthur, age 71 of Jasper, Ga., died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at her residence following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 5, 1938 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late John Clayton and India Wheeler Evans. Mrs. McArthur had worked as a machine operator at the Lee Company, LAT Sportswear and ERBS of Woodstock until she retired. She was a member of Price Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John L. McArthur, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbie Sue and Jimmy Poole, Tate, Betty Lou Poole and Pegi Ann and Tony Pendley, all of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Marian McArthur, Jasper; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Piccola Holcomb, Jasper, and Ollie Dobbs, Canton; brothers, Robert Lee Evans, Fairmount, Ga., and Elmer Evans, Woodstock, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Mrs. Bonnie Stipp Peters, age 92 of Jasper, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009.
Mrs. Peters was born on Nov. 20, 1916 in Stonega, Va. She was the daughter of the late Jarvis J. and Mary Ann Johnson Stipp. She worked the textile industry and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper. Her husband, Hugh Frank Peters, and a son, T.J. Carlisle, precedes her in death.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Larry Reece, Whitestone; and son, James W. Carlisle, Loachapoka, Al. Seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Bros. Larry Reece and David Parks officiating. Music was by Vicki White and Missy Reece. Pallbearers were: Ricky Reece, Guy and Kevin McCullough, Donnie Holmes, David Parks and John Greenweizch. Interment was in the Jasper City Cemetery.
Kadin Gerald Wilson, age 5 of Acworth, passed away at Emory Hospital at Johns Creek Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Chandra and Stacy Blackwell, Acworth; father, Michael O?Dea, Buford, Ga.; grandparents, Jerry and Judy Wilson, Jasper, Mary Jane O?Dea, Pennsylvania, and Walter Eugene and Dorothy Blackwell, Acworth; brothers, Larkin Wilson and Connor Blackwell, both of Acworth; special aunt, Crystal Grant, Acworth; and special cousin, Alexis Grant, Acworth. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
