Lester Hammontree
Lester Eugene Hammontree, age 76 of Allgood Bridge Road, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at Palmetto Health Baptist in Easley.
Born in Marble Hill, Ga., he was the son of the late George Lester and Beatrice Neighbours Hammontree. He retired from Duke Power, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Nesbitt Hammontree of the home; daughters, Kathy H. Haltiwanger and Tina Hammontree, both of Pickens, S.C.; son, Wayne Hammontree, Pickens, S.C.; sisters, Bess Gladden and Faye Voyles; brother, Daniel Hammontree, Jasper, Ga.; and grandchildren, Katharine Haltiwanger and Jonathan Hammontree. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Lila Riley and Marie Kline.
The funeral service was held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel with interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Fannie Pooley
Mrs. Fannie Rutledge Pooley, age 88 of Austell, formerly of Jasper, passed away on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009.
She retired from Coosa Valley Vocational Tech School in Rome as LPN instructor.
Mrs. Pooley was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert C. Pooley; son, Robert Julian Pooley; daughter, Nancy Jo Pooley; and brother, Hardy Rutledge.
She is survived by her son, Donald C. Pooley, Denton Tx; and daughters, Kathy Goodson, Charlotte, N.C., and Suzanne Zimbardo, Tucson, Az. Five grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Friday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. from Overlook Cemetery, Eden, N.C. a memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 25 at 3 from Presbyterian Village in Austell, Ga with the Rev. Debbie Wells officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Robert C. Pooley and Fannie Rutledge Pooley Scholarship Fund, c/o Presbyterian College, 503 S. Broad St, Clinton, S.C. 29325.

Thomas Wainright
Mr. Thomas Grady Wainright of Rome passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Wainright, Rome; daughters, Brenda Cushman and Sandra Beasley, both of Marietta, and Deborah Quarles, Cedartown, Ga.; step-daughter, Beverly Hepler, Covington, Va.; and step-son, Tom Crook, Austell, Ga. Ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survives.
The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 23 at 2:30 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. John Sullivan officiating. Interment followed in Whitestone Baptist Church Cemetery with 314 Meyerhardt Lodge in Kennesaw in charge of Masonic graveside rites. Pallbearers were: Frank Hepler, Michael Vice, Tom Crook, Grady Dale, Robert Beasley and Tim Slayton. Nellie Satterfield
Mrs. Nellie Montene Satterfield of Ball Ground passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
Survivors include Dean Satterfield, Steve and Linda Satterfield and Harvey and Dianne Satterfield, all of Ball Ground, Ga., Dianne VanDeusen and Danny Christopher, Dominican Republic, Edna Howard, Athens, Ga., Polly West, Martha Davis, Bennie Brooks and Lucy VanDoren, all of Jasper, and Byrel Driver, Charleston, S.C. Eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Satterfield was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Satterfield; and her parents, Walter Clifford and Addie Lester Driver.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin Weaver officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Orea, Dickey and Scott VanDoren, Joe Walker, Chris and Waylon Smith, Jamie Satterfield and David Pampell.

Herman Byers, Jr.
Mr. Herman Byers, Jr. of Talking Rock passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Byers, Talking Rock; Jackie and Mary Alice Byers and Rodney and Delores Byers, all of Ball Ground, and Christy and Patrick Bryson, Talking Rock; and grandchildren, Justin, Jody, Kelly and Kerry Byers and Hunter Bryson.
The funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Scott Holden and James Rich officiating. Interment followed at Ball Ground City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Joey Byers, Glenn Stone, Pete Walker, Butch Cowart, Ed Milford and David Solomon. Honorary pallbearers were: Glenn Brannon and Ricky Ray.
