Walter Tursky, Jr.
Mr. Walter George Tursky, Jr., age 57 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008 at his residence.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Rodger and Carolyn Tursky, Orange City, Fl.; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Lawrence Beck, Jasper, Ga.; aunt and uncle, Marion and Bud Morrow, Grand Rapids, Mi.; and Father Den Morrow, Grand Rapids, Mi. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8 from the Georgia National Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Richards officiating. Sosebee Funeral Home of Canton in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie Waldroup
Mrs. Bonnie Mae Waldroup, age 94 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 at the North Georgia Medical Center in Ellijay, Ga. following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1913 in Gordon County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Martha Roland Sanford and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Emmett Waldroup. Mrs. Waldroup was a homemaker and a member of Talking Rock Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Paul Petty, Talking Rock; son, Ronnie Waldroup, Talking Rock; grandchildren, Keith Petty, Talking Rock, and Rena and Justin Strohl, Ellijay; and great-granddaughter, Gracie Strohl, Ellijay. Several other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5 from Talking Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Bobby McFarland, Robert Allen and Buck Parker officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: James and Don Quinton, Tony Parks, Justin Strohl, Paul Petty and Fred Gilbert. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Betty Garrett
Betty Jo Stiles Garrett, age 75 of Madisonville, Tn., formerly of Powder Springs, Ga., passed away 10:06 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 at her home.
Mrs. Garrett was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church, Marietta, Ga.; former owner of Betty?s World Famous Hotdogs, Marietta.
She was preceded in death by husband of 52 years, Henry Wayne Garrett and mother/ grandmother, Laura Ann Raper.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Connie G. and Earl Evans, Jasper, Ga., and Jennifer G. and Marvin Blanton, Campobello, S.C.; granddaughters, Laura Avereigh and Leah Jocelyn Blanton, and grandson, Jared Blanton, all of Campobello, S.C.; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Linda and Ronald R. Hensley, Madisonville, and Joan and Gordon (Pete) Garrett, Maryville; and nephews, Mike Garrett, Maryville, and Mitch Garrett, Baton Rouge, La. Several cousins, many special family members and devoted friends and caregivers, Kim Arp, Helen Stephens, Terri Hooper and Jeanette Cramier, also survive.
The funeral service was held at 8 p.m. Friday from Biereley-Hale Chapel with the Revs. Curtis Woods, Burl Harris and Dr. Lon Shoopman officiating. Interment was Saturday in Haven Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Carius Hospice, Athens and First Baptist Church of Madisonville.

Joan Burger
Mrs. Joan Burger, age 55 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Burger, Jasper; son, Russ Burger, Jr., Atlanta; daughter, Michele Burger, Tate; brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Gretta Payne, Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Roy Lynn, Cleveland, Tn.; and grandchildren, Payton and Tucker Clark.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. from Free Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Grant Wade, Harold Johnson, Randy Weaver and Larry Holden officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Terry Cantrell, Andy Holden, Tommy Gartrell, Joey Jones, Mike Sneed and David Burger. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Juanita Watkins
Mrs. Juanita Burrell Watkins, age 81 of Marietta, died Sept. 5, 2008.
Mrs. Watkins was born in Jasper and married Lee Watkins. She retired from Kennestone Hospital, was active in the Kennestone retirees and volunteered at Cobb Community Services with mental health patients. She was a member and played the piano for 15 years at Greer?s Chapel. She was member of the Kennesaw Chapter 414 Order of Easter Star for over 50 years. She was loving and caring to all people, but especially her grandsons. Mrs. Watkins was active in making crafts, flower arrangements and sewing projects. She gave them as gifts to other people.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Earl Stiner, two grandsons, Austin and Jon; and aunt, Pearl Hammontree, Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday from Greer?s Chapel Church in Kennesaw. The Rev. David Huggins officiated. Interment was in Mt. View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, give gifts to the American Heart Association. Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw was in charge of arrangements.

Mettie Kay
Mrs. Mettie Velena Kay of Fairmount, Ga. passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 4, 2008 at her residence following a brief illness.
Mrs. Kay was born Dec. 6, 1921 in Pickens County, Ga., the daughter of the late Samuel and Sara Young Kelley. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Kay, of the home; nephew and wife, John and Faye Addy, Concord Community; sister-in-law, Mittie Kelley; and niece, Susie Grizzle. Other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home. Singing was arranged by Tara Smith, Wesley Grizzle and Lisa and Drew Kirby. Pallbearers were: Darrell and Wesley Grizzle, Mike Farmer, Elbert Jackson and Michael Johnson. Interment followed in the family lot of Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church Cemetery.

Kate Bunch
Mrs. Kate J. Bunch, age 87 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 at Mountainside Health Care in Jasper, Ga. following an extended illness.
Born March 6, 1921 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Lula Hefner Jones. Mrs. Bunch was also preceded in death by her husband, J.H. Bunch; brother, Billy Jones; and sister, Annie Ruth Hall. She had worked as a time keeper with Bell Bomber in Marietta.
Survivors include one sister, Jewell J. Cribb, Marietta, Ga.; and brothers, Gene Jones, Talking Rock, and James J. Jones, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Buddy Roper and Harold Cantrell officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: nephews, Bill Cribb, Jr., Greg and Phillip Jones, Ted Cawley, Hershel Bridges and Barry Easterwood. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to United Hospice.
