Betty Schneider Colbert, formerly of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., passed away on July 9, 2008 at her home on Lake Lanier in Dawsonville, Ga.
She was born in Scranton, Pa. on April 5, 1924. Betty and the late Richard P. Colbert were married for 42 years.
A graduate of Frankford High School in Philadelphia, she graduated from Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing and ended her 40-year healthcare career as Director of Nursing at Warminster General Hospital in Pennsylvania in 1985.
Upon retiring and moving to Georgia, she became active in church activities and the local chapters of AARP, the Chamber of Commerce, RicRack, the Women?s? Club and the Grandmothers? Club. Betty also did volunteer work for The American Red Cross and the Dawsonville Seniors? Center. She was a dedicated mother and a wonderful friend, who loved to sing and bake bread and cakes for her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her sister, Maria Chepigan, Collingswood, N.J.; sons, Richard S. Colbert and Julie, Paris, France, and Craig B. Colbert and Barbara, Huntingdon Valley, Pa.; daughters. Beth V. Greenberg and Allen, Dawsonville, Ga., and Tracey Osborne and Kevin of Jasper, Ga.; grandchildren, Jill Daley and Brian, Acworth, Ga., Josef Fischer and Jamie, Atlanta, Ga., Kelly Neill, Hatboro, Pa., and Kristin Krause and John, Hatboro, Pa. Three great-grandchildren and her dogs Stanley and George also survive her.
She is already deeply missed.
Her memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12 from the Chapel of McDonald & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of honor and sympathy can be made to The Alzheimer?s Association, 1925 Century Blvd. NE, Suite 10, Atlanta, Ga.

Mrs. Maude Pettitt, age 92 of Nelson, passed early Tuesday morning, July 8, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her sons, Allen Pettitt, Jasper, Phillip Pettitt, Nelson, and Joel Pettitt, Gillsville, Ga.; and daughter, JoAnn McClellan, Ball Ground. Nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, July 10 at 2 p.m. from the Gospel Temple Church in Ball Ground with the Revs. Bill Lewis and A.W. Roberts officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Allen, Phillip, Joel, Nathan, Nick and Cody Pettitt serving as pallbearers. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Grady Fay Pierce, age 77 of Tate, Ga., passed at his residence Monday evening, June 30, 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Vionia O. Murphy Pierce, Tate; son, Jimmy Pierce, Savannah; step-son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Vivian Murphy, Ball Ground; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tony Wilson, Griffin; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Allen Ray, Canton, and Bobbie Jo and Mike Whittington, Watkinsville, Ga.; sisters, Patsy Harper and Joyce Lewis, Griffin. Ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, July 3 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Hannah and Daniel Ray officiating. Interment followed in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Tate, with Joey Murphy, David and Daniel Ray, Chris Whittington, Blair Cole, Clarence Jones, Jared Wilson and Jimmy Pierce, Jr. serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Violet J. Spence, age 88 of Ball Ground, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Peachtree Christian Hospice.
Mrs. Spence was a member of Ophir Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Bobby Spence, Canton; daughters, Faye Silvers, and Brenda Chambers, both of Jasper, and Sandra Haynes, Ball Ground; brother, Lewis Yancey, Jasper; and sister, Alice Corbin, Jasper. Eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Mark Henson and Troy Davis officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park.
Robin Renee Roberts, age 35 of Jasper, passed away July 12, 2008 at her residence.
She was born Feb. 1, 1973 in Indianapolis, In., the daughter of Paul and and the late Peggy (Foster) West. Robin had lived in the area for the past 10 years. Her and her husband Brian enjoyed traveling and sightseeing.
Survivors include her husband, Brian Neighbors, Jasper; father and step-mother, Paul and Cindy Roberts, Shelbyville; sons, Charles Skiles, Milroy, In. and Travis Neighbors, Jasper; daughters, Samantha Skiles, Milroy, and Brittany Neighbors, Jasper; brother, Paul Roberts, Franklin, In.; sisters, Amy Hampton and Stephanie Redd, both of Shelbyville; and grandchild, Kevin Barnard, Milroy.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, July 16 at 3 p.m. from Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home. Interment was in Fairland Cemetery in Shelby County with the Rev. David Humphrey officiating. Mr. Donald Myers, age 81 of Big Canoe, Ga., passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 at Heartland Hospice House in Cartersville, Ga.
Mr. Myers is survived by a brother, Bill Myers, Michigan; and nieces, Nancy Loveall and Margaret Myers Culver, both of Michigan.
There will be no viewing or visitation at Cagle Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan. The family requests in lieu of flowers, make donations to Big Canoe Animal Shelter.
Mr. Ronald Lee Long, age 52 of Marietta, Ga., died Monday, July 14, 2008 at Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Ga. following his battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 27, 1955 in Gordon County, Ga., he was the son of the late Henry L. and Della Mae Childers Long.
Survivors include his brother, Jerry Long, Marietta, Ga.; special friend, Sheena Jackson; nephew, Jacob Long; and cousins, Jimmy Long, Panama City, Fl., Shirley Phillips, Acworth, Ga., and Judy Burns, Alabama. Other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James Thompson and Terry Dean officiating. Interment followed in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Steve and Tim Childers, Scott Dean, Jamie Haynes and Jimmy and Jacob Long.
