Jack Godfrey
Mr. Jack Godfrey, Staff Sgt. First Class (Ret.), passed away peacefully in the early hours of the morning Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at his residence. He was 76 years old.
Mr. Godfrey was loved by all that knew him. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother to all his family. Not only was he a Christian that loved the Lord and the church, he loved his native country, of which he served in the US Army for 20 years. During those 20 years he served in foreign countries during the Korean War in 1951 and two tours in Vietnam. Mr. Godfrey was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries received in the Korean War. He also received the Metal Valor of Honor, the Bronze Star and other numerous medals. He truly loved his country and was proud to be called a veteran of the US Armed Forces.
Survivors include his wife, Dean Parker Godfrey of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Sandy Godfrey and David Mitchell Godfrey and Karen West, all of Talking Rock; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Lowree Godfrey, Marietta, Emmett and Jewell Godfrey, Jasper, and Dick and Barbara Godfrey, Apollo Beach, Fl.; sisters and brother-in-law, Mildred and John Garner, Ruby Daugherty and Betty Godfrey, all of Talking Rock; grandchildren, Stacey and Matt Chastain, Tiffany and Jamie Cook and Joseph and Cody Godfrey; and great-grandchildren, Eli Cook and Austin Godfrey. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, May 29 at 3 p.m. from Talking Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Allen, Danny Townsend and Larry Kelley officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with local Chapter 14 DAV in charge of military rites. Pallbearers were: Joseph, Cody and Patrick Godfrey, Bud Payne, Doug and Kenny Watkins and Kyle and Russell Bunch. Honorary pallbearers were: Jim Quinton and Virgil Chastain. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ron Riherd
Ron Lloyd Riherd, 62, died May 23, 2008, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He was born in Jonesboro, Ark., on Feb.13, 1946.
He spent his working years as a loan administrator. At retirement, he fulfilled a dream of owning property and cabins in the North Georgia Mountains. There he spent his days going on excursions with his mother and relaxing with his dog Lu-Lu.
He spent his last six years with his wife Jana traveling to Europe and the Caribbean, and splitting his time in between Savannah and Blue Ridge. He was an amazing father, husband and friend. He will be remembered by many for his wonderful smile, laugh and Godly spirit. Ron touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by all, especially by his wife and daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Jana of Blue Ridge; father, James Riherd of Blairsville; daughter, Chelsey Lloyd Smith (Bobby) of Jasper; step-children, Brooke Wanex of Savannah and Andrew Wanex of Roswell; grandchild, Elijah Riherd Smith; brother, Ed Riherd; and sister, Donna Miller.

Herb Stone
Mr. Herb Stone, age 74 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed at his residence early Tuesday morning, May 27, 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Stone, Talking Rock; and brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Lois Stone, Twin Tanks Community. Nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, May 29 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Buck Parker and Glen Simms officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Chris Watson, Terry and Phillip Martin, David Spence, Randall Young and Chris Romine serving as pallbearers.
