Ginger Lewis
    Virginia “Ginger” Wilkie Lewis, age 59 of Rocky Face, Ga., formerly of Trenton, Ga., passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday morning, Dec. 30, 2013.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
    She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellene Wilkie.
    Survivors include her husband, Steve Lewis, Rocky Face; son, Charles Griffin Goble, Jasper, Ga.; daughter, Staci Leanna Causby, Chatsworth, Ga.; grandchildren, Haley and Conner Patterson, Garrett and Addyson Causby and Trystan Goble; father, Edward (Jo) Wilkie, Trenton, Ga.; and sister, Becky (Arthur) Baker, Birmingham, Al. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, in the chapel with the Rev. Jerry Atkins officiating. Interment followed in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens. Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton, Ga., in charge of arrangements.

Carol Ann Deckert
    Carol Ann (Jones) Deckert, age 79, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at her home in Bent Tree near Jasper, Ga.
    Born on July 19, 1934, in Warsaw, Mo., she was the second and last child of the late Z. Glen Jones and Jewel Ellen Parker Jones. Her elder brother, Willard E. Jones, also of Bent Tree, passed away this past April.
    She graduated from St. Charles High School, just west of St. Louis, in 1952 and received a degree in Music Education from Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky., in 1956. Carol taught in elementary and middle schools for 34 years, mostly in the Ferguson-Florissant School District in St. Louis County, Mo.
    Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Deckert, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Michael Steevens, O’Fallon, Mo.; son and daughter-in-law, David G. and Laverne Deckert, Woodstock, Ga.; grandchildren, Kathryn and Jackson Steevens and Matthew and Grace Deckert; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Dalton)  Jones, Jasper; nieces, Sharlyn, Leslie, Michelle and Carol, along with their families; sister-in-law, Verna Bryan, Miami Lakes, Fl.; and nephews, Kevin and Charles Bryan, along with their families.
    A memorial service was held at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the American Cancer Society or the Ovarian Cancer Institute (

Edward Wilkie
    Edward Franklin Wilkie, age 86, of Trenton, Ga., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday morning, Jan. 4, 2014.          He was retired from the Bank of Dade where he served as president from 1958 until 1983 and was a member of the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge of Pickens County. He graduated from North Georgia College and State University with Honors.          He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy and a member of Ascalon Baptist Church.
    He was preceded in death by Ellene Wilkie; daughter, Virginia “Ginger” Wilkie; and sisters Flondell Cagle and Edna Mae Beasley.
    Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou “Jo” Wilkie, Trenton; daughter Rebecca “Becky” (Arthur) Baker, Birmingham, Al.; step-children, Martha (Danny) Rowell and David (Debbie) Brown, both of Trenton; grandchildren, Joshua Lewis, Staci Causby, Brandy Nix, Dustin Lewis, Griffin Goble and Jesse Lewis; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Earl (Evelyn) Wilkie, Jasper, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, in the chapel with the Revs. Jerry Atkins and David Brown officiating. Interment followed in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.

Tammy Emory
    Mrs. Tammy Emory, age 46 of Talking Rock, entered into rest at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.
    She is survived by her husband, Roger Emory, Talking Rock; daughters and son-in-law, Lora and James Brown, Talking Rock, Betty Emory, Jasper, and Cathy Emory and Cynthia Emory, both of Talking Rock; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Shelia Coker, Cherokee County; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Emory Samples, Cumming, Karen and Fred Miller, Canton, Linda Coker, Jasper, and Terry Ruth Adams, Dawsonville. Mrs. Emory had four grandchildren, Roger Emory, Rosemary Shipman, Dennis Free and Robert Lee Emory. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Harold Mull, Tim Hyde and Anthony Stonecipher officiating. Interment followed in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Adam Richards, Bobby Hollingshed, Dan Dale, Joseph and Josh Adams, Bobby, Chris, Billy Joe and Bryan Coker and Roger Crocker. Cagle Funeral Home was honored to serve the Emory family.

Susan Sprague
    Ms. Susan Sprague, age 53 of Jasper, entered into rest at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013.
    She is survived by her sons, Gregory Sprague II, Michigan, Jonathan Sprague and girl friend Tammy Hernadez and Jason Sprague, all of Nelson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Margaret Vandenboss, Missouri, Harold and Dawn Vandenboss and Zael E. Vandenboss, all of Michigan; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Penny and Jerry Farris and Dawn and Tom Devereaux, all of Michigan. Ms. Sprague is preceded in death by her parents, Zael and Evelyn Vandenboss; brother, Tom Vandenboss; and sister, Carol West.
    Cagle Funeral Home was honored to serve the Sprague family.

Thomas Dorris
    Captain Thomas S, Dorris, age 87, went to his heavenly home on Jan. 7, 2014.
    Captain Dorris is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sarah Paula Dorris, Ball Ground, Ga.; children, Linda Stovall and her husband Ronnie Stovall, and Karen Jackson, Clarksville, Tn., Mary Ann Dorris, widow of deceased Michael Dorris, Nashville, Tn., Judy Holden and husband David Holden, Tate, Ga., Natasha Bridges Green, Jasper, Ga., and Charlton Green, Ball Ground, Ga.; grandchildren, Cory and Dallas Barfield, Jason and Dillon Jackson, Clarksville, Tn., Demitris Green, Thomas Devontay Green, Deondre Green and Demarcus Bridges,  Jasper, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren.
    Captain Dorris was a Navy Veteran of World War II, and he later became a Captain for Eastern Airlines for 35 years. Lasts plane flown was the L-1011. His accomplishments were many.         The funeral service will be held at Cagle Funeral home in Jasper with visitation being Saturday, Jan. 11, from 5-9 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 12, the service will be at 2 p.m. All friends and family are welcomed to attend.
