Richard O. Hall, age 51, retired metal erector laborer, died at E.T York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville, Fl., on Oct. 5, 2013. He was a former resident of Jasper.
Richard was a special person who overcame many challenges, with a positive and hard-working attitude.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chet Hall, Richmond, Va., along with his beloved step-son, Ryan Justin Caviness. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Hall, Gainesville; dear friend, Mr. Herbert L., Atlanta; mother, Carolyn Hall, London, Ky.; sisters, Liz Ducette, London, Ky., and Catherine Friedel, Port Orchard, Wa.; and last but not least his beloved big cat “Grey.”

James McElhattan, Sr.
Mr. James Ambrose “Mac” McElhattan, Sr., age 76 of Jasper, Ga., died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at the Heritage Healthcare in Jasper.
Born June 6, 1937, in Kittanning, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas C. and Mildred George McElhattan/Boyd M. and Grace E. Johnston. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Iva M. Harbour and Ruth E. Hankey; and brothers, Thomas F. and Kenneth E. McElhattan.
Mr. McElhattan was a master plumber and was owner/operator of McElhattan Plumbing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jean (Sears) McElhattan, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Jennie L. McElhattan, Covington, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty T. Jackson, Columbiana, Oh., Helen “Jane” and Jake Hankey, Ford City, Pa., Gladys B. and Charles Gillespie, Shelocta, Pa., Shirley and Benjamin Woodard, Silver Creek, Ga., Reeda and Leroy Patterson, Stockbridge, Ga., and Betty and Ronald Savach, Hubbard, Oh.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, William J. and Mildred “Bootsie” McElhattan, Shelocta, Pa., Robert R. and Kathy McElhattan, Broken Arrow, Ok., and William B. and Alice Johnston of McCaysville, Ga. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers William Johnston and Butch Jones officiating. Interment followed in O’Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Fannin County. Mr. James Walter Erwin, age 78 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at his residence.
Born Dec. 1, 1934, in Shellman, Ga., he was the son of the late James Robert Erwin and Maudie Trippe Erwin. Mr. Erwin was an engineering geologist with the Army Corp of Engineers, having retired in 1990 in Atlanta after 32 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran and was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Harriett Erwin, Talking Rock and Deland, Fl.; sons and daughter-in-law, James Walter Erwin, Jr., Warwick, N.Y., Chris and Laurie Erwin, Homer, Ga., and Steve Erwin, Woodstock, Ga.; grandchildren, Sydney Erwin, Greenwich, Ct., James Erwin, III, Greenville, S.C., Christopher Erwin, Woodstock, Ga., Courtney Erwin, Homer, Ga., and Montana Erwin, Cumming, Ga.; and brother-in-law and spouse, Ron and Linda Bell, Talking Rock, Ga. Other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Jasper United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chip Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Mr. Jay Adrian Hill, age 50 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga.
Born Nov. 30, 1962, in Alton, Il., he was the son of the late Richard and Marilyn King Hill. Mr. Hill was a roofer and had worked with Jack Phillips Construction.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Hill, Talking Rock; son, Mason Tyler Hill, Talking Rock; daughter, Amy Wilson, Canton, Il.; grandchildren, Alexa and Benjamin, both of Canton, Il.; sisters, Lori Kamp, Illinois, and Alicia Webb, St. Louis, Mo.; brother, Andy Hill, Boise, Id.; mother-in-law, Irene Dorsey, Jasper; and sister-in-law and husband, Tracy and Charles Stargel, Tate, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Cantrell officiating. Cremation followed the services.
Mr. Leon Childers, age 73 of Jasper, an Army veteran with 26 years of service and 2 tours in Vietnam, passed away at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013.
Mr. Childers is survived by his wife of 52 years, Erika Childers, Jasper; mother, Estelle Childers, Jasper; daughters and son-in-law, Teresa and Gene Deal, Monticello, Patricia Dlugasch, Ardmore, Al., and Pam Long. Conyers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lenard and Gladys Childers and Wayne and Nancy Childers, all of Jasper, Ed and Monika Childers, Calhoun, and Tim and Kym Childers, Cumming; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda Wigington, Rachel and Mickey Howard and Flondell and James Thompson, all of Jasper, Winnie and Robert Tanner, Ranger, Jo Ann and Jerry Phillips, Calhoun, and Patsy and Bill Webster, Jasper. Six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Omada Childers; and sister, Margie Weaver.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Revs. James Thompson, Nathan Smith and Robert Allen officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Pickens Star Lodge #220 and local chapter 47 DAV in charge of military Rites. Pallbearers were: Joey, Teddy, Terry and Justin Childers, Chris Pittman and Corey Thompson.
Opal M. Woodall, age 71 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Heritage Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Charles Woodall. Survivors include her son, Jeff (Diane) Woodall, Talking Rock; daughter, Carrie “Missy” (Steven) Brown, Woodstock; brother, Henry (Myrick) Bennett, Acworth; sisters, Mary Simmons, Arlington, Tx., Jo (Fred) Bagwell, Kennesaw, Ruth (Joe) Brackett, Cartersville, Margaret (Dan) Meadows, Woodstock, Janice (Jim) Brookshire, Acworth, and Sharon (Jerry) Nichols, Temple; and grandchildren, Sam, Jessica and Emily Woodall, Talking Rock, and Devon and Rachael Brown, Woodstock.
The funeral service was held on Sunday, Nov. 17, from the South Canton Funeral Home with Robert Ingram officiating. Interment followed at Rolling Hills Memory Gardens.
