Woody Miller
    Mr. Woodson Howell  “Woody”  Miller, age 78 of Ellijay, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
    Born March 5, 1935, in Barrow County, Ga., he was the son of the late Alvin and Lottie Brooks Miller. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Cecil Miller. 
    Mr. Miller was a United States Air Force veteran and was a senior tool engineer at Lockheed-Martin in Marietta where he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Morganton Baptist Church.
    Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Helen Miller, Ellijay; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Howell Miller (Sandra), Denver, Co., and Barry Jonothan Miller (Terri Lynn), Jasper, Ga.; grandchildren, Joshua and Carrie Miller, Nathan and April Miller, Jason and Kristy Miller and Jacob Miller and Amanda Miller; great-grandson, Maddux Miller; mother-in-law, Essie Lou Wilkins, Winder, Ga.; sister, Margaret Haymon, Carl, Ga.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Randolph and Faye Miller, Macon, Ga., Alvin Miller, Stathem, Ga., Stanley and Jenni Miller, Carl, Ga., and Mac Miller, Gainesville, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 31,  at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Rucker and Mr. Timothy Miller officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lillian McClure
    Ms. Lillian McClure, age 76 of Jasper, Ga., passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013, at the Kindred Hospital in Rome, Ga., following a period of declining health.
    Born July 14, 1937, in Jasper, she was the daughter of the late Myrtie-Mae Davis. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Thersea Gail McClure Davis; sisters, Pauline Davis and Jane Farrow; and a brother, Robert Davis.
    Survivors include her granddaughter, Destiny Nicole Davis,  Powder Springs, Ga.; sister, Frances Chatman, Jasper; brothers and sister-in-law, Paul and Patricia Davis, New York; and Steve McClure of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Makayla and Myleigh Warnick, both of Powder Springs, Ga.; and son-in-law, Samuel Davis, Austell, Ga.. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 31, at the Friendship Baptist Church in Jasper, with the remains placed in state at the church at noon. The Rev. Leo Hampton officiated with the interment following in Norton Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory of Jasper.

Maude Howard
    Mrs. Maude Taberiaux Howard, age 90, of Fairmount, Ga., departed this life Saturday morning, August 31, 2013, at the Calhoun Health Care Center.      Maude was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Pickens County, Ga., a daughter of the late William and Charity E. Fann Taberiaux. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Theodore Howard, Sr.; and her daughter-in-law, Teresa Howard.
    She was retired from Lacy Mills and was a member of Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church. She was a member of the Priority Club of Fairmount. 
    She is survived by her son, James Ted Howard, Jr., Calhoun, Ga.; granddaughter, Deirdia Howard and Wayne Wylie, Rosedale, Ga.; nieces, Betty Jo Johnson, Mary Alice Brown and Elizabeth Cook; and nephew, Dennis Taylor. Several cousins and many friends also survive.
    Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Maude Howard were held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m. at Ponders Fairmount Chapel with the Revs. Harold Owens, Ronnie Howard and Lamar Beason officiating. She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church Cemetery with her family and close friends serving as pallbearers.

James Henson
    Mr. James Henson, age 82 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013.
    Mr. Henson was born Dec. 25, 1930, in Gilmer County to the late James and Lillie Mae Teems Henson. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Cherokee County and retired from Georgia Marble as a mill operator after 35 years. Mr. Henson is preceded in death by his sister, Vera Henson.
    Survivors include his wife, Kay Henson, of the home; sons, Darrell, Dean and Doug Henson, all of Jasper; daughters, Jessie Muecke, New River, Az., and Daphne Neely, Decatur; brothers, Leon Henson, Dalton, Jerry Henson, Canton, Harold Henson, Chatsworth, and Mitchell Henson, Jasper; and sisters, Sylvia Totherow, Ellijay, Margie Howell, Canton, and Susie Davis, Dalton. Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
    The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Revs. Glenn Arnold and Mark Henson officiating. Interment followed in the Yukon Cemetery.

Dub Lawson
    Roper Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper announces the death of Mr. A.W. “Dub” Lawson, Jr., age 87 of Jasper, who passed away on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at his home. 
    Mr. Lawson served his country in the US Army during World War II. Lawson Chevrolet was founded in 1928 by Dub’s father. In 1964 Dub became the owner of Lawson’s Chevrolet. Dub served as chairman of the Board of Director at the Jasper Banking Company for over 30 years. He was also a member of Northside Church of Christ.
    He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Lawson, Jasper; children, Shelia Buckner, Ann and Eddie Duncan, Lorrie and Scott Shaw and Al and Terri Lawson, all of Jasper; grandchildren, Michael and Karrie Poole,  Ashley Cagle, Chris and McKenzie Duncan, Colby and Jenna Shaw, Jordan Shaw, Ali Lawson and Will Lawson and Clay Lawson; and great-granddaughter, Jenna Poole, Jasper, Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The family received friends at Roper Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1-9 p.m. and Wednesday until the funeral hour. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 4, at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Minister Terry Burress and the Rev. Johnny Padgett officiating. Interment will follow in the Jasper City Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Jasper City Cemetery Fund or to the American Red Cross.
