Marlene Jones
    Mrs. Marlene Dean Jones, age 75 of Jasper, Ga., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
    Born Dec. 1, 1937, in Pickens County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late William and Eunice Brock Dean. She was also preceded in death by grandsons, Connor and Dillon Jones.     Mrs. Jones worked as a teacher’s aide for the Pickens County Board of Education and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
    Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Max Jones, Jasper; daughter and son–in-law, Maxie and Joe Van Sant, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, David Jones, Keith and Sondra Jones and Doug and Melissa Jones, all of Jasper; brother, Gary Dean, Fayetteville, Ga.; and nephew, Mark and Kathy Dean, Peachtree City, Ga.
    The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, from Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. James Thompson, Buddy Roper and Robert Allen officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements and services entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper.

Donnie J. Chumley
    Mr. Donnie Junior Chumley, age 53 of Jasper, Ga., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a sudden illness.
    Born Sept. 5, 1959, in Pickens County, Ga., he was the son of the late Garnett and Lula Adeline Simonds Chumley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Vernon “Bud” Chumley
    Mr. Chumley worked in the maintenance department with the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a member of the Refuge Baptist Church.
    Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Sheila Chumley, Jasper; daughters and son-in-law, Rachael and Miles Childers and Mattie Chumley, all of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Lorie Chumley of Dallas, Ga.; grandchildren, Stephen and Allie Childers, both of Jasper, and Jacob, Bryce and Eli Chumley, all of Dallas, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Jimmy Fountain, Jasper, and Vernet and Johnny Jarrett, Tate, Ga.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Sue Chumley, Marble Hill, Ga., Johnny and Lucy Chumley, Talking Rock, Ga., Ronnie and Joyce Chumley, Lawrence and Jan Chumley, Randy and Becky Chumley and Patricia Chumley, all of Jasper. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31,  from Refuge Baptist Church with the Revs. Ricky Jarrett and Jonathon Jarrett officiating. Interment followed in Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday and until the funeral hour on Monday. Arrangements and Services are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home of Jasper.

Eva Yother
    Mrs. Eva Elizabeth Yother, age 52 of Jasper, Ga., died on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, in Jasper.
    Born Sunday, Feb. 7, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt and the late Bessie Wigington Bagwell.
    Survivors include her husband, Ricky Yother, Jasper; daughter, Julia Reece, Cleveland, Ga.; brothers, Billy and Johnny Bagwell, both of Marble Hill, Ga., and Jason Bagwell, of Fairmount, Ga.; and sisters, Jennie and Cecil McBee, Canton, Ga., and Betty and William Hollifield, Ball Ground, Ga.
    A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Roper Funeral Home Chapel located in Jasper with the Rev. Joey Watson officiating.

Ollie Baranoski
    Mrs. Ollie Stanfield Baranoski, age 94 of Jasper, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
    Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Mosley, Jasper; brother; Bob Stanfield, Jasper; sisters, Jimmie Pete Eaton,   Jasper, and Hazel Austin, Kennesaw; grandsons, Dan and Marty Mosley; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Chase, Tyler, Aley and Meya Mosley.
    A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Buck Parker officiating. Pallbearers were: Dan, Marty, Ryan, Chase and Tyler Mosley. The family did accept flowers but prefer donations to the American Heart Association. Cagle Funeral Home was honored to serve the family.

Joyce Merrell
    Mrs. Joyce G. Merrell, age 65 of Ellijay, died Monday, Dec. 31 2012.
    She was born April 8, 1947, in Dawsonville to the late Joe and Audie Chumley Blackwell. She worked for Jasper Rubber.
    Mrs. Merrell was preceded in death by her husband, James Merrell.
    Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Willie and Susie Merrell, Ellijay; grandchildren, Angela Mulkey, Elaine, Shellie and Kimberley Merrell, Justin Kendricks and Jordan and J.D. Merrell; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Parker Mulkey, Levi Johnson, Cali Fairweather and Leah Johnson; sisters, Mamie Singleton, Social Circle, and Juanita Ramey, Jasper; and brothers, J.B. Blackwell, Madison, and James Blackwell, Loganville.
    The funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. from Four Mile Baptist Church in Pickens County with the Rev. William Blackwell and Bishop Wayne Moore officiating. Pallbearers were: Stevie Mulkey, Anthony Johnson, Travis Chumley, Tracy Ramey, Shawn Ensley and Toby Carver.

Melitta Andrews
    Mrs. Melitta Anna Andrews, age 78 of Fayetteville, N.C., formerly of Jasper, Ga., died Friday, Dec. 28,  2012, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
    Survivors include her son, Irwing Totzauer; sisters, Waldraud Dewald,  Maria Bauer, Ilse Baierl and Erika Childers; and brother, Gerhard Totzauer. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
    A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. at Jernigan-Warren Chapel.

Lillie Lacy
    Mrs. Lillie Mae Lacy, age 79 of Jasper, Ga., died on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at decedent’s residence in Jasper.
    Born Thursday, April 13, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Rembert Parker and the late Della Dean. She was the wife of the late W. Lacy.
    Mrs. Lacy was employed by ProGroup.
    Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sandra Lacy, Ellijay, Ga., David and Joanie Lacy, Marble Hill, Ga., Randy and Kathy Lacy, Talking Rock, Ga., and Johnny Lacy of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Ed Davis, Dawsonville, Ga.; brothers, Buck and Ruth Parker, Jasper, William and Marie Parker, Canton, Ga., and Bobby and Teresa Parker, Talking Rock, Ga.; sisters, Dorthy and Robert Chambers, Canton, Ga., Margaret Allen, Tate, Ga., Sue and J.I.     The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Salem Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Childers and  Robert Allen officiating. Interment followed in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements and services entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper.

Carolyn Ellis
    Carolyn Sue Ellis, age 69 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
    Born Tuesday, March 2, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Jordan and the late Dora Kelley.
    Ms. Ellis was a member of County Line Baptist Church.
    Survivors include her sons, Bo and Elaine Ellis and Terry and Vickie Ellis, all of Jasper; daughters, Malinda Ellis Cochran Sandford, Fairmount, Ga., Angie Ellis Troglin, Talking Rock, Ga., and Kim and Msgt. Paul Jordan, Warner Robins, Ga.; and brother, Bobby and Helen Jordan, Talking Rock, Ga. Nine grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at County Line Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny Townsend and Glenn Arnold officiating. Barbara Garrett
    Barbara Ann Garrett, age 65 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
    Born Wednesday, April 23, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Robert Padgett and the late Jessie Dean. She was the wife of the late Willard Garrett.
    Survivors include her son, James and Betty Garrett, Jasper; brothers, Troy and Angela Padgett and Toy Padgett, all of Jasper; sister, Billie Jean and T.D. Childers, Jasper; grandchildren, Cody, Erica, Kayla, Chris, Lexi, Noel; great-grandchild, Peyton Nichols, and best friend, Louann Duckett.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. William Blackwell and Randy Cloer officiating. Interment was in Cherokee Memorial Park, Canton, Ga. Arrangements and services entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory of Jasper.

Ricky Martin
    Mr. Ricky Martin, age 59 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
    Mr. Martin was born on Wednesday, June 10, 1953. He served as a SP4 in the Army from 1970 until 1976.
    Survivors include his brothers, Charlie Martin, Belleville, Mi., and David Martin, Silver Springs, Fl., and niece, Penny Sutton, Fairmount.
