Obituaries for December 27, 2012; James White, Roberta York, Terry Floyd

James White
    Mr. James Buford White, age 40 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton.
    He is survived by his wife, Samantha White, Jasper; parents: Ann and Winston White, White, Ga.; son, Cody Nicholson, Jasper; daughter, Destiney White, Jasper; brother, Winston Buddy White, Anderson, S.C.; and sister, Lorie Pritchett, Canton. Several nieces, nephews and one great-niece also survives.
    The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Cloer and Roger Schultz officiating. Interment followed at Macedonia Memorial Park in Cherokee County. Pallbearers were: Allen Cox, Sambo-Gerald Hughes, Hoss-Marvin Edge, Donnie West, Matthew Pritchett, Jamie Pritchett, Chase New, Roger Schultz and Larry Young.  The family did accept flowers but prefer donations to the Diabetic Association.

Roberta York
    Mrs. Roberta “Bobbie” York, age 75 of Jasper, Ga., died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at her residence following a period of declining health.
    Born Monday, June 28, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel D. and Geraldine Demsey Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William V. York, Sr.; and her son, Arthur M. Polk, III. Mrs. York was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Tabernacle Church in Jasper.
    Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Barbara Polk Farmer and John Timothy Farmer, Jasper; Melody and Gary Haas, Quarryville, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Ellen Cohen, Chalfont, Pa.; step-sons and spouse, William V. York and Bonnie, Riverside, Ca., and Steven York, Blue Ball, Pa.; and step-daughters, Sue Schnader, New Holland, Pa., and Linda Holmes, Abbington, Va. Twenty-four grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and other relatives also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Trinity Tabernacle Church in Jasper with the Revs. Ken Horton and Richard Kitchens officiating. Interment followed later in the Rothsville Cemetery in Lititz, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Tabernacle Church, Building Fund, 239 Allred Mill Rd., Jasper, Ga. 30143.

Terry Floyd
    Terrance “Terry” Lindsey Floyd of Athens died on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012.
    He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Mary Lindsey Floyd and Roy Floyd, Sr. When he was a young child, his family moved to New Bern, N.C., where his father opened a monument business. Later, they moved to Jasper to be near his grandparents and other family.
    Terry graduated from Pickens County High School and attended Piedmont College and the University of Georgia. He enjoyed swimming, diving and water skiing, traveling and in earlier years hunting and fishing. One of his favorite things was the annual trip to the beach with his family.
    Terry was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War. He served aboard the U.S.S. Manchester and at the U.S. Naval Hospital on Guam.        He was a charter employee of the Environmental Protection Agency in Athens, Ga., where he worked for 38 years; he formed many lasting friendships there.
    Terry was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church for 51 years.
    Terry was devoted to his family and will be profoundly missed. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Rice Floyd; son, James Blanton Floyd and his wife Vickie Goetsch Floyd; grandson, Stephen James Floyd; granddaughter, Virginia Lindsey Floyd; and sisters, Ann Floyd Stanfield and her husband Bob, Jasper, Ga., and Jackie Floyd McGee, Pelzer, S.C. Many much-loved nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Mary Ruth Floyd; and brothers, Roy Floyd, Jr. and James M. Floyd.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Lord & Stephens East Chapel. Interment was in the Bold Spring United Methodist Church Cemetery in Franklin County. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 111 West Lake Dr., Athens, Ga. 30606.
