Roper Funeral Home & Crematory of Jasper announces the arrangements for Mrs. Betty Carolyn Pinyan Wigington, age 73 of Jasper, who passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and Keith Jones; sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Robert Evans and Martha and John McAfee; grandsons, Brock and Donavan Jones; and sister- and brother-in-law, Ruth and Bill Stanfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Dub Wigington; daughter, Donna Wigington; and grandsons Conner and Dillon Jones.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 24, at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Robert Allen and Grant Wade, and David Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Lucille “Betty” Harvey, age 68 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Piedmont Hospital.
Born on June 3, 1944, in Norfolk, Va., to the late Gilbert A. Olsen, Sr. and Aileen Virginia Culpepper Olsen, Mrs. Harvey was also preceded in death by her husband, G.C. Harvey; sister, Kristina Prather; and daughter, Lynn Lewis.
Mrs. Harvey worked as a hairdresser.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Libby and Joey Wells, Buena Vista, Gina and Adam Padgett, Jasper, and Beth and Kenyon Lewis, Ocoee, Fl.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and William Forrester, Gainesville, Janie and James Willis, Tennessee, and Mary Parker, Atlantic Beach, Fl.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Gilbert A. “Gid” Olsen, Jr. and Frances Olsen, Jasper, and CC and Marty Messmer, Ellijay; grandchildren and spouses, Adam and Saretta Wells, Justin and Carole Wells, Jonathon Thompson, Karris Thompson and Hollie Lewis; great-grandchild, Austin Wells; and her dear cat, Sammie Harvey.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 26, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Claude Smithmier officiating. Interment followed in the Georgia National Cemetery on Monday, August 27, at 12:30 p.m.
William Murtagh, Jr.
Mr. William Gray Murtagh, Jr., age 74 of Jasper, Ga., died Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1937, in New Orleans, La., he was the son of the late William Gray Murtagh, Sr. and Gladys Marie Galliot Murtagh. Mr. Murtagh worked as a Senior Claims Administrator for Scott Technology’s in the insurance industry. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and was also of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife of 48 Years, Jean Murtagh, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Glenn Dodge, Lewisburg, Tn.; sons and daughters-in-law, Gray and Dina Murtagh, Canton, Ga., and James and Stephanie Murtagh, Hendersonville, N.C.; grandchildren, Reagan, Cathryn and Jamie Murtagh; and sister, Susan Hughes, Alpharetta, Ga.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 25, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Byrd officiating. The family requests donations be made to Jesuit High School, 4133 Bank Street, New Orleans, La. 70119.
Edith Onnolee Johnson Henry, age 80 of Kennesaw, passed away August 24, 2012.
Edith was born in Jasper, Ga., and graduated from Pickens County High School in the class of 1949 as Salutatorian. She was a member of the National Beta Club and was elected to Who’s Who in American High Schools. Edith graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Ga., in September 1970 as Valedictorian of the class and was presented the President’s Award for outstanding scholastic achievement. She was also elected and served as secretary-treasurer of the class. Edith joined the staff of Mayes Ward Funeral Home in June 1971 where she served 26 years until retirement in June 1997. She became a member of the Altrusa Club in 1973 and was an active member for a number of years. Edith was a member of First Baptist Church, Acworth.
Survivors include her daughters, Janice H. Goggins and husband, Nick, and Joyce Goolsby and husband, Michael, all of Acworth; sisters, Ruth Henson and Linda Bloodworth and husband, Don, all of Blue Ridge; brother, Phillip Johnson and wife, Kay, Talking Rock; sister- in-law, Linda Johnson, Jasper; and grandchildren, Stacey Helm, Dustin and Cory Lovett and Blake and Kyle Goggins; great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survive. Edith was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Victoria Johnson; and brother, Harold Johnson.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 27, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Chapel, Marietta, with the Revs. Joe Dan Wilkins and Sammy Hall officiating. Interment followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Acworth.
Mr. Scott Randy (Ozzie) Osborne, age 50 of Ellijay, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012, at North Georgia Medical Center in Ellijay.
Survivors include his wife, Annerose Osborne, Ellijay; mother, Niwanna Osborne, Jasper; father, Jimmy Sawyer, Avon Park, Fl.; daughters, Shaneen, Sabrina and Rachelle Osborne, all of Ellijay; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Joyce Osborne, Tate; sister, Kimberly Lanier, Port St. Luci, Fl.; nephew, Jason Tate; and nieces, Lauren Elizabeth Langston and Caitlyn Tate.

Mrs. Mary Lou (Short) Eaton, age 76 of Tate, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold Eaton, Tate; daughter, Kathy Eaton, Tate; brothers, Red Jarrett, Talking Rock, and Roy Lee Jarrett, Johns Creek; sister, Bobbie Sutton, Talking Rock; brother-in-law, Hobert Jones, Tate; and grandchildren, Kevin Eaton and Ben and Lexi Childers. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Eaton was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Eaton Crane; and sister, Jimmie Mell Jones.

Survivors include her son, Randy Lee Stamey; brothers, Leonard, Jerry and Richard McTaggart; sisters, Diane Estes, Lucille Goss and Rosetta Hester; grandchildren, Mandy, Chris, Randy, Robin, Leanne and Eli Stamey.
