Mrs. Dolores Starr Ivey, age 56 of Commerce, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.
Survivors include her husband, Jackie Ivey, Commerce; daughters, Telena Mae Howard, Jasper, and Manilinda Jimenez and Rhonda Tuner, both of Ellijay; and sister, Angela Mulkey, Jasper. Five grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Doug Vernon officiating. Interment followed in Sweetwater Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Irma Jean MacArthur, age 81 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Tranquility Wellstar Community Hospice in Austell, Ga., following a period of declining health.
Born on April Sept. 14, 1930, in Cherokee County, Ga., to the late Truman and Magnolia Mills, Mrs. MacArthur worked as a homemaker. She was also a member of Talking Rock Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Mr. A.G. MacArthur, Jr.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Shelia MacArthur, Kennesaw, Ga., and Steve MacArthur, Jasper; grandson and spouse, Derek and Kelly MacArthur, Marietta, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Grant and Gracie MacArthur; brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Ann Mills, Jasper; and sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Thomas Allgood, Dalton, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Buddy Roper, Gene Childers and Edwin Weaver officiating. Interment followed at the Talking Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Billie Christine Dotts, age 63 of Acworth, Ga., passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born on July 6, 1948 in Pickens County, Ga., to the late Billy and Ruth Parker, Mrs. Dotts worked in the food industry as a waitress at Taylor’s Restaurant. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Dotts.
Survivors include her sons, Timothy Preston Robertson, Canton, Ga., and Preston Randell Robertson, Acworth, Ga.; and aunts and uncles, Rose Horton, Albertville, Al., Jim and Denton Fox, Shirley Beck and Frances Gravley, all of Jasper. eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 31, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Childers officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Wilburn M. Holloway, age 74 of the Yellow Creek Community, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Northside Hospital Atlanta.
Mr. Holloway was a member of Ophir Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and bird watching.
He was preceded in death by son, Gene Yother; and sister, Clora Mae Walker. Survivors include his wife, Betty Ruth Holloway; children, Dan O’Bryant, Cumming, Shelby Watson, Mississippi, John O’Bryant, Yellow Creek, Lynn O’Bryant, Kingsland, Ga., Joe O’Bryant, Ball Ground, and Mitchell Holloway, Yellow Creek; sisters, Bertha Padgett, Yellow Creek, and Martha Harvill, Athens; and brother, Leonard Holloway, Powder Springs. Eighteen grandchildren, numerous grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Mrs. Patricia Anne “Patti” Grewen, age 69 of Big Canoe, Ga., died Friday, June 1, 2012, at her residence following a period of declining health
Born Sept. 1, 1942, she was the daughter of the late George Robert and Vivian Rouse Feeley. Mrs. Grewen was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Grewen, Jr., Big Canoe; daughters, Mary Elsner Chico, Ca., Gretchen Selvage, Escodido, Ca., and Faith Aldstradt, Temecula, Ca; son, Fred Grewen, III, Canton, Ga.; and sisters, Carol Silvino, Naples, Fl., Mary Forsyth, Wilmington, N.C., and Susan Knoll, Raleigh, N.C. Twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church with the Rev. Randy Mattox officiating. Mrs. Rosetta Duprey, age 73 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 14, 1938, in Tyrunza, Ar., Mrs. Duprey was the daughter of the late Selmar and Lillian Allred. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Duprey was preceded in death by her Husband, Mr. Donald Richard Duprey.
Survivors include her son, Richard Duprey, Jasper; daughters, Donna Owen, Angela Malina and Rachel Tanner, all of Jasper; granddaughters, Diana Lewis, Jasper, and Jamie Duprey, Xephyer Hills, Fl.; great-granddaughters, Teresa Lewis and Elizabeth Jackson, both of Jasper; nephew, Paul McHone, West Palm Beach, Fl.; and sisters and brother-in-law, Fern Penddleton, Chula Vista, Ca., and Emma and Theodore Hussy, Ocala, Fl.
At her request, Mrs. Duprey was cremated with no services at this time. Arrangements were by Roper Funeral Home & Crematory in Jasper.
Mrs. Coline Wofford, age 79 of Ball Ground, formerly of Jasper, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at her residence.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Melva Wofford, Ball Ground, and Ricky and Nancy Wofford, Jasper; daughter, Rita Bailey and David Pack, Jasper; and brothers, Wesley Cook of Jasper and Bobby Cook of Ellijay. Thirteen grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Coline was preceeded in death by her husband, Hubert Wofford; and daughter, Gail Pendley.
The funeral service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, with the Revs. Buddy Roper and Buck Parker officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Stella Abernathy, age 94 of Bent Tree, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012, at Canton Nursing Center.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ira R. and Jean Abernathy, Copperhill Tn., John R. Abernathy and Denise Mitchell, Washington, D.C., George T. Abernathy, Venice, Fl., and Terry R. Stephens and wife Terry, Douglasville, Ga,; daughters and son-in-law, Carol A. and Don Bailey, Ball Ground, and Gladys Helfinstine, Lawton, Ok. Fifteen grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren alo survive.

Interment followed at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, Ga. Pallbearers were: Greg, Brett and Steve Abernathy, Dale, Cory and Addison Green and Rob and Cameron Collett. Mr. Michael Ray Parker, age 53 of Jasper, formerly of Talking Rock, Ga., passed from this life on Friday afternoon, June 1, 2012.
He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, born Dec. 2, 1958, to his late parents, Ray Leon and Wilma Jean Abercrombie Parker in Jasper, Pickens County. Mr. Parker was a graduate of Gilmer High School, class of 1976, and was employed as a truck driver.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Jessica Marie and Evan Howell, Ball Ground, Ga., Valerie Michelle and John Roberson, Calhoun, Ga., and Heather Parker of Hinton, Ga.; grandchildren, Bryan, Ashley and Will Howell and Chase Roberson; and half brother, Justin Parker, Hinton, Ga.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, from Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Scott Watkins, Wallace Parks and Tim Hyde officiating. Graveside service followed in the Mt. Pisgah Church Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony. Pallbearers were: Eric Childers, Jeff Combs, Andy Burton, John Clower, Danny Hyde, Ted Wilkens, Paul Shoemake, Randy Ponders, Keith Harris, Johnny Hightower and Johnny Dean.
Sgt. Richard Coulter, Jr.
Sgt. Richard E. Coulter, Jr. - Cape May P.D. (ret) - age 66 of North Cape May, N.J., passed away peacefully on June 2, 2012, surrounded by his family after a long and heroic battle with cancer.
Richard was the oldest son of the Rev. Richard E. Coulter, Sr. and Anna Louise Coulter (nee Hilton), whom he rejoins in Heaven. Richard was a 6-year veteran of the U.S. Navy (four active, two reserve). After serving his country, he went on to serve the City of Cape May for 22 years in its police department. In retirement, he again turned to serving his country and community by working security at the U.S. Coast Guard TRACEN in Cape May for several years.
Richard was an avid reader of books and was an extremely knowledgeable history buff. He also loved studying and watching the sport of baseball and was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. Most importantly of all, he was a loving husband, a proud father and an affectionate grandfather, and he is sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mildred (nee Strickland); children, Richard (Christine) Coulter and Alexander Coulter (Samantha Lapp); sisters, Mary (Steven) Bostwick and Louise Johnson; brother, James Coulter; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Coulter, Celeste Matthews-Delp, Natalie Coulter and Kevin Coulter.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, Richard’s family requests that memorial donations be made to the City of Cape May Fire Department, Heartland Hospice of Northfield, N.J., and/or the Veterans’ Affairs Hospital of Wilmington, De. Spilker Funeral Home, Cape May, N.J., in charge of arrangements.
Edna Mae Carlton, age 90 of Anderson, S.C., passed away on June 4, 2012, at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born in Gilmer County, Ga., on July 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John E. and the late Sarah Loumanda McClure Chastain. She was employed as supervisor of Housing Services at Furman University for over 20 years. Edna had served as a Worthy Matron of The Eastern Star and was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church in Taylors.
Mrs. Carlton is survived by a son, William “Frank” S. Carlton and his wife Jean, Anderson; brother, Terry Joe Chastain of Jasper, Ga.; sister, Margaret Jane Abernathy, Jasper, Ga.; grandchildren, Stephen Carlton and his wife Lisa, Geoff Carlton, Elizabeth Carlton Richmond and her husband Matt, Benjamin Carlton and Ronnie Dickerson; great-grandchildren, Scout and Finn Carlton and Emily Richmond; a number of nieces and nephews; her pride and joy, Molly, her miniature Dachshund, and her special caregivers, Karen Ramsey and Becky Hulon.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Carlton Dickerson; and brother, John E. Chastain.
The family received friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 6, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with the funeral service in the Chapel at 2.
