Betty Emory

Mrs Betty Emory, age 66 of Jasper, Ga., passed at her residence  Monday, Feb. 13, 2012.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Daubs, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and David Klein, Yellow Creek Community; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harley and Janice Childers, J.T. and Kathy Childers and Horace and Betty Childers, all of Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and John Tawzer, Marietta, and Eloise and Daniel Weaver, Rocky Face; and grandchildren, Nick Garner and Michael and Heather Klein. Three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. from Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Buck Parker officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Scott, Mark, Dwight and Roger Childers, Sam Weaver and Jon Tawzer serving as pallbearers. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Linda Nichols

Linda C. Nichols, age 71 of Talking Rock, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Ethel Chambers; and son, Denver Burel. Survivors include her husband, Lamar Nichols, Talking Rock; son, Tim (Rachael) Nichols, Talking Rock; daughters, Tammy (Tony) Brown, Talking Rock, and Tina (Donnie) Craig, Talking Rock; sister, JoAnn (Harry) Woodall, Canton; sister-in-law, Janice (Coy) Lowe, Talking Rock; grandchildren, Brandon and Jamie Stone, Lindsey and Tommy Phillips,  Tyler and Ashley Craig, Greta, Addie and Rebekah Nichols, and Travis and Dana Brown; and great grandchildren, Brandon Stone, Jr., Mitchell and Presley Phillips and Austin and Spencer Brown. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home  with the Revs. Huey Holloway, Larry Kelley and Steve Lowe  officiating. Interment followed at Cagle/ Darnell Family Cemetery.

Ann Usry

Ann Rutledge Usry, age 69 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at her residence.

Survivors include her children, Amanda (Brandon) Smith and Mark Allen Usry, both of Jasper; and grandchild, Ely Henson, Jasper.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, from Pleasant Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Tyrone Terry and Eric Mayo officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. South Canton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Johnny Vickers, Sr.

Mr. John R. “Johnny” Vickers, Sr., age 82 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at the Heritage Health Care in Jasper following a period of declining health.

Born Jan. 10, 1930, in Moultrie, Ga., he was the son of the late Leonard Butler Vickers and Maeola Virginia Mock Vickers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Leavern Reavis Vickers; and a daughter, Kay Leavern West.

Mr. Vickers had served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a flight line mechanic at Lockheed in Marietta. Mr. Vickers was a member of the Pickens Star Masonic Lodge # 220, was an ordained minister and was a member and deacon of Antioch Baptist Church.

Survivors include is daughters, Gale Connelly (Randy) and Joy Burnette (Steve), all of Talking Rock, Ga.; son, Randy Vickers (Candy), Holly Springs, Ga.; son-in-law, Ronnie West; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Rayford Vickers (Tillie), Flowery Branch, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, from Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Moss Fountain and Gene Childers officiating. Interment  followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by the Pickens Star Masonic Lodge #220. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Jean Ryder

Mrs. Jean Ryder, age 67 of Jasper, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Danny Ryder, Jasper; daughter, Sherry Hammond, South Riding, Va.; Son, Scott Hammond, Tyler, Tx.; mother-and father-in-law, Ruby and Fred Ponder, Tate; grandchildren, Hunter Upson, Benton Ballenger, Eryn Bercowicz and Breanna and Chandler Hammond; and sister, Nancy Webster, Ohio. A half-sister, step-brothers and step-sister also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Von Hinton officiating. The interment followed in the Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Irene Hollifield

Mrs. Irene Hollifield, age 73 of Tate, Ga., passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at her residence.

Survivors include her two sons and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Terri Hollifield and Douglas Hollifield, all of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Sonny Underwood, Tate; and sisters, Montine Ledbetter, Gainesville, and Christine Bruce, Lumpkin County. Eleven grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. Danny Holden

Mr. Danny Holden, age 61 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at a residence in Jasper.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob and Sebrina Holden, Brad and Lori Holden and Curtis Holden, all of Jasper; step-sons, Adam Brown, Marble Hill, and Chris Brown, Jasper; daughter, April Holden, Jasper; brothers, Larry Holden, Marble Hill, and Andy Holden, Jasper; and sister-in-law, Rita Holden, Ball Ground. Nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Pearson officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with local Chapter 47 DAV in charge of military rites. Odell Evans

Mr. Odell Evans, age 89 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Jaci Evans and Ben and Angie Evans, all of Jasper; and daughters, Melba Evans and Linda Easterwood, both of Jasper. Five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Parks Evans; and grandson, Ryan Evans.

The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Von Hinton officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Wesley and Adam Easterwood, Brian Johnson, Tyler Shackleford, Phil Blackwell and Kris Hyde. James Carver

Mr. James Carver, age 63 of Talking Rock, passed away Friday night, Feb. 17, 2012, at his residence.

Survivors include his son, Larry James Carver, Talking Rock; daughters, Brenda and Rachel Nichols, both of Jasper; brothers, Charlie and Tommy Carver, both of Talking Rock; sisters, Mary Lou Pettigrew and Essefaye Godfrey, both of Talking Rock; grandchildren, Josh, Katie and Ashley Nichols and Zach, Corey and Hunter Hermann; and great-grandchild, Payton Thomas Nichols.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Buck Parker officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Cleo Honea

Mrs. Cleo Bryan Honea, age 96 of Tate, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Brian Center in Calhoun.

Born Feb 7, 1916, to the late Gideon and Beatrice Fitts Bryan, she was the wife of the late Otis (Slick) Honea and the mother of the late Mary Marjorie Honea Edwards.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Johnny Edwards; and sisters-in-law, Nell and James Forrest, Forest Park, Atlanta, and Vadie Honea, Birmingham, Al. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Mize and Fred Edwards officiating. Interment followed in Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. The family did accept flowers or donations may be to Marble Hill Baptist Church for Tornado Rebuilding Fund.

Thomas Moss

Thomas William Moss, known to his family as Bill and most friends and work associates as Tom, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012.

Tom was born in Jasper, Ga., on March 14, 1930. He was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church and had lived in Jasper since 1997. Tom was known for his involvement in many organizations including: AARP, the local Republican Party, the Rotary Clubs of Gainesville and Stone Mountain, Ga., and the Georgia Tech Alumni Association.

Tom served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Pickens Star Masonic Lodge #220. He retired from the Atlanta Gas Light Company after 45 years of service. He was very involved with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Tour efforts to bring additional development to the State of Georgia.  Before moving to Jasper, Tom and his wife Rose Marie “Boots” lived in Oakwood and Stone Mountain, Ga. Tom was a 1959 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie “Boots” Moss, and is survived by his sons, Kevin, Houston, Tx., and his fiancée, Sue Coley, and Randy and wife Regina, Dahlonega, Ga.; and grandchildren, Emily and Andrew.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home in Jasper. Burial was later at the National Cemetery in Canton, Ga.

John Hooker, Jr.

Mr. John Carlos Hooker, Jr., age 66 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at his residence following a sudden illness.

Born July 16, 1945, in Pensacola, Fl., he was the son of the late John Carlos, Sr. and Ruth Pearl Ennis Hooker. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hooker.

Mr. Hooker was a millwright and master carpenter and had also work at the Jasper Elementary School. He was a member of the 30th Avenue Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Fl.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Franz, Jasper; daughters, Raini Sturm, St. Petersburg, and Tiffany Edwards, Illinois; grandchildren, Garrett Roach, Madison Sturm and Noah Edwards; sister, Sheila Sinclair, Jasper; and brother, David Hooker (Gail), Augusta, Ga.; Several nieces and nephews also survive.

At his request, Mr. Hooker was cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shiloh Baptist Church, 3681 Hwy. 515 S., Jasper, Ga.  30143. Roper Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of arrangements.

Ann Burch

Mrs. Ann Aiken Burch, age 79 of Big Canoe, Ga., passed away Feb. 19, 2012. She was a native of Atlanta.

Ann graduated with the class of 1954 from Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. She also received two degrees from Georgia State College, a Master’s and a six year degree, both in Education. She was  principal at both E. Rivers Elementary School and North Atlanta High School.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, William Francis (Frank) and Mabel Matthews Aiken. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Douglas Burch; son, Roger Rocklan Solomon; and cousin Mignon L. Burst.

The family received friends on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, 100 Griffith Road, Jasper, Ga. 30143 with the Revs. George S. Yandell and Katharine Armentrout officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Wesleyan College in memory of Ann A.
