Billie Jean Wofford
Miss Billie Jean Wofford, age 40, of Jasper passed away at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital on Jan. 23, 2012.
She is survived by her parents, Billy and Donna Wofford, Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Heather Wofford, Jasper; and niece, Baylee Wofford, Jasper. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. William Blackwell and Steven Chapman, and Allen Wigington officiating. Interment followed in the Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. The family did accept flowers or you may make donations to The Domestic Violence Center.
Brenda Jo Spence
Mrs. Brenda Jo Spence, age 65 of Jasper, Ga., passed at her residence early Sunday morning, Jan. 22, 2012.
Survivors include her sons, Donald Paul Smith, Jr., Kansas City, Mo., and Danny Preston Kirk, Dahlonega; daughters, Deana Morgan, Jasper, and Donna Jean Merritt, Locust Grove, Ga; sister, Betty Jean Garrison, Talking Rock; and grandchildren, David Adam and Stephen Strickland, James and Lisa Joyner, Katie Glisson, Samantha Smith and Dylan Kirk.
At her request Mrs. Spence was cremated and no plans for a memorial service have been made. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Edith Trammell Blackwell, age 90 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald and Wayne Blackwell, both of Marble Hill; and daughters and son-in-law, Deborah and Eddie Jones and Trudy Totherow, all of Marble Hill. Twenty-three grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 26, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. Horace Trammell, Bobby Trammell, Gene Hyde and Jason Hamby officiating. Interment followed at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Tony Kent, Jody Bell, Scottie, Josh, Clint and Andy Blackwell, Brannon Smith and Jeremy Chastain. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lawrence “Larry” Carl McCreight, age 67 of Jasper, Ga., died on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012 at Heritage Hospice in Marietta, Ga., following an extended illness.
Larry was born in Detroit, Mi., on April 7, 1944, to the late Lawrence Elmer and Betty Jane Perry McCreight.
Following high school Mr. McCreight served his country in the US Army, he earned his living as a mechanic. Larry quickly became a true craftsman in his field and began to work with and build engines for some of NASCAR’s early drivers. Larry had the ability to work on heavy equipment as well. He was a Corvair enthusiast and was also a member of the Ellijay American Legion Post #82.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by a brother, Paul Martin McCreight.
Larry is survived by his brother, Arthur Charles McCreight, DeLand, Fl.; sister, Nancy E. Feldmann, Colorado Springs, Co.; brother, David Allen McCreight, Orange City, Fl.; step-mother, Marie B. Traas, Rolla Mo.; step-brother, Gerald Bennett and his wife Nancy, Rolla, Mo.; and numerous other relatives and friends.
S graveside service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand, Fl. His uncle, Andrew Rushford, officiated. Donations may be sent to the Heritage Hospice, 3315 Hilltop Drive, Marietta, Ga. 30066.
Florence E. Matthiesen, age 84 of Indianapolis, formerly of Waukegan, Il., died Jan. 21, 2012 at IU Health North in Carmel, In.
Florence was born April 29, 1927, in Chicago, Il., to Samuel and Georgia Plice; they preceded her in death. Mrs. Matthiesen was a graduate of Northwestern University was retired from Waukegan schools where she taught kindergarten for 30 years.
Florence was a member of the IEA, the WCS and NEA. An avid golfer through life, she served as president for four years of the 9-Hole Ladies Golf organization at Bent Tree Golf Club in Jasper, Ga., where she was also club champion in 2007.
Mrs. Matthiesen is survived by her husband, James A. Matthiesen; son, Jay A. Matthiesen; daughter, Carol A. Waddell; grandchildren, Jenell Fairman, Jodi Wickenkamp and Jeannie Glasstetter; six great- grandchildren; and brothers, Bill and Sam Plice.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring after which her cremated remains will be scattered in Mayhew Lake in Grand Marias, Mn., in the summer of. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choosing.
Mrs. Patricia Ann Warren, age 54 of Ranger, Ga., departed this life Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Ga., surrounded by her loving family.
Patty was born June 18, 1957, in Washington State. She was born a daughter of the late Phillip Baker. Patty was a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Patty is survived by her husband, Donald Scott Warren; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Samantha Gardner, Long Beach Ca.; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Sarah Baker, Syracuse, N.Y., and Jeffery and Shannon Baker, Ballston Spa, N.Y. Patty is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Nobuko Baker, Ballston Spa, N.Y.; and sister Carol Allen, Saratoga Springs, N.Y
