Mr. Walter Hanzi of Jasper, age 80, passed away Sunday evening, August 7, 2011, at his home with his family at his side.
Born in Switzerland in 1930, and later immigrated to New York, Mr. Hanzi had his own construction company, was an avid skier and served in the 10th Infantry of the US Army from 1956-58.
Mr. Hanzi is survived by his wife, Gertrude Hanzi, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Roman Hager, Suwanee; daughter, Alyssa Hanzi, Marietta; brothers, John Hanzi, Texas, and Werner Hanzi, Switzerland; and sister, Lily Hanzi, Switzerland.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, August 10, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Tabernacle with the Rev. Larry Phillips officiating. He was laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. Those who desire may make contributions to Bethel Tabernacle. Arrangements were entrusted to Roper Funeral Home & Crematory.
Roach M. Taylor, 92, of Marietta died Friday, August 12, 2011.
Mr. Taylor was a deacon for over 60 years at Mary’s Memorial Baptist Church. He was a loving husband and father and was loved by all who knew him. Mr. Taylor was the last surviving child of 12 children.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Ruby Moss Taylor, Marietta; sons, David M. Taylor, Marietta, and John Darryl Taylor and his wife Deborah, Douglasville; grandchildren, Michael Taylor, Aubrey Tubiak and Jennifer Kellam; great-grandchildren, Ava Kellam and Barrett Tubiak; several nieces and nephews; and special caretaker, Amie Spears Lockett.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mary’s Memorial Baptist Church in Marietta with the Revs. Johnny McPherson and Robert Allen officiating. Interment was in Rolling Hills Cemetery. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta in charge of arrangements.
Mr Bob Williams, age 72 of Jasper, passed Saturday August 13, 2011, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Williams, Jasper; daughters, Dale Harris, Douglasville, Ga, Tammy Higgins, Hiram, Lynn Turner and Julie Fuqua, both of Jasper; brother, Jimmy Williams, Newnan; and sister, Delores Phillips, Newnan. Eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, August 16, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Mock officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with the following serving as pallbearers: Dereck and John Fuqua, Wayne Fann, Matt Turner and Daryl and Kevin Morris.The family did accept flowers or memorials may be made to Cagle Funeral Home to assist with the funeral expenses.
Mrs. Lois Williams Low, age 100 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday morning, August 15, 2011, following a lengthy illness.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Peggie and Charles Chapman, Jasper; grandchildren, Leslie and Mark Miller and Clint Chapman, all of Jasper, Marilyn and Jim Willcox, Kennesaw, Ga., and Sharon and Gary Pardue, Lawrenceville, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Skip and Cynthia Willcox, Sandersville, Ga., Monica and Tony Marra, High Point, N.C., Kelley and Jason Lee, Sugar Hill, Ga., Shea Buckley, Athens, Ga., and Will Buckley, Lawrenceville, Ga.; and great-great-grandchildren, Tony Marra, II, Carter Lee and James Willcox, IV. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carter Clinton Low; and sons, William Clinton (Bill) Low and Eugene Allison (Gene) Low.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, from the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Dr. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the Talking Rock Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Roper Funeral Home of Jasper.
Chris Wilson, age 45 of Canton, Ga., passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011, in Washington, Ga.
Survivors include his fiancé, Kelley Becker, Canton, Ga.; mother, Carol McAfee, Kennesaw, Ga.; step-father, Henry Craig, Kennesaw; son, Caine Wilson, Canton; daughter, Courtney Wilson, Canton; sister and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Ricky Kelley, Ball Ground, Ga., Debbie and Danny Norton, Jasper, and Carmen and Mark Ramsey, Canton.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, August 19, from Darby Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Shannon Kelley and Tolbert Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donation be made to Cure it for Kids in honor of Abigail Kelley, Mr. Wilson’s great- niece.
