Anne Adams McCabe, age 81, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, in Jasper, Ga.
She was the beloved mother of Geoffrey F. McCabe, Fredericksburg, Va., Meredith M. McCabe, Atlanta, Ga., Matthew W. McCabe, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Jacqueline McCabe Bauer, Jasper, Ga., Andrew J. McCabe, Middlebury, Vermont, and John Clifford McCabe, Waddington, N.Y.
Born on Jan. 8, 1930, in Flushing, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John W. “Bud” and Helen Korth Adams. Anne earned her RN at the New Rochelle Hospital School of Nursing, earning the Honor for Best Bedside Nurse in her graduating class. She dedicated herself to that profession throughout her life in New York at Elizabethtown Lewis Central School and later at Sandy Pines in Tequesta, Fl.
Her volunteerism mirrored her life’s passions, serving on the Board of Directors of the Depot Theater in Westport, N.Y., and as a volunteer at Martin County Memorial Hospital and the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce.
Predeceased by brothers, John W., Byron K., her twin brother Anthony J. Adams; sister, Joan Ellis; and is survived by sisters, Virginia Benham, New York City, Mimi Geraghty, Wantagh, N.Y., and Helen K. Allen, Tequesta, Fl. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 31 nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Roper Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 11. Family and friends gathered afterward at the Woodbridge Inn to celebrate her life.

Mandy Wilson Hoisington age 34 of Athens, Oh., passed away Monday, July 18, 2011.
Mrs. Hoisington was preceded in death by her grandparents, Blondine Wilson and Johnny Lee Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, Jay Hoisington, Athens, Oh.; children, Clayton and Jacob Hoisington, Athens, Oh., Alexis Hoisington, Talking Rock, and Izabella Hoisington, Athens, Oh.; parents, Dwight and Mary Ann Wilson, Talking Rock; grandparents, Sam Wilson, Canton, and Omie Jean and Bobby Armour, Canton; brother, Justin Wilson, Talking Rock; and sisters, Misty Lubke, Talking Rock, and Brittany Lacy, Ranger. Several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Revs. Huey Holloway, Willard Wilson and Eric Mayo officiating. Interment followed at Chalcedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
Mrs. Edna “Maxine” Mullinax Mathis, age 71 of Pickens County, Ga., passed away Wednesday afternoon while a patient at Wildwood Health Care in Pickens County.
Mrs. Mathis was born in Pickens County on Jan. 22, 1940, and was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Eula Griffin Mullinax, and brothers, Cleburn and Eugene Mullinax. She was a retired textile worker having been employed by Candlewick Yarns prior to her retirement.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Mathis, to whom she was married for 50 years; and three sisters, Lorea Thompson and Joyce Ridley, and local survivors, Shirley Defoor and husband Randy, Calhoun; and brothers, James Mullinax and wife Sue and Wallace Mullinax and wife Hazel. A host of other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday at noon from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. David LeGrand officiating. Interment followed in Ebenezer Cemetery in Gilmer County.
Mrs Josephine (Jo) Wilson, age 75 of Jasper, passed Sunday afternoon, July 17, 2011 at Wildwood Health Care in Talking Rock, Ga.
Surviving include her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Edwards, Ball Ground, Barry and Karen Edwards, Hagerstown, Md., and Larry Edwards, Fredrick, Md.; daughters and son-in-law, Lucinda and Jerry Reed, Woodstock, and Deborah Martin, Whittier, N.C.; and sister, Cicily Osteen, Alexander, Va. Ten grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held Thursday, July 21 at 11 a.m. from Shiloh Methodist Church in Canton with the Rev. Gary Moore officiating. Mr William C. (Tom) Smith, age 77 of Jasper, passed at his residence Tuesday morning, July 19, 2011.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Smith, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Debi Smith, Midland,Tx., and Phillip and Becky Smith, Big Spring,Tx., daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Chris Rose, Lubbock,Tx.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Bob Grizzle and Doris and Bryant Strickland, Ellijay. Twelve grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive. Mr Smith was preceded in death by a son, Ervin Smith.
The funeral service was held Thursday, July 21, at 2 p.m. from Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Huey Holloway, Leroy Kelly and Cory Rich officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park with Jimmy and Tom Smith, Bobby Joe Grizzle, Frank James, Ronald Barnes, Wayne Wheeler, Johnny Bearden and Donnie Fowler serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Frances Reece Dixon, age 78 of Jasper, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
Mrs. Dixon was born on March 6, 1933, in Gilmer County. She is the daughter of the late Horace and Havannah Evans Reece. She was a retired OR Tech from Pickens General Hospital and a member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Dixon.
Survivors include her nieces, Mary Nell Agan, Janice Davenport and Betty Abercrombie, all of Ellijay; special friends and neighbors, Mary Ruth Parker, Stan and Ann Dean, Annette Anderson, Bonnie and Red Fountain, Mary Edmonson, Peggy Petty, Edna and Frances Townsend. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, July 21, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Revs. Jerry Banks and Billy Dotson officiating. Music was by Cindy Ensley and Anita Dotson. Mr. Lloyd W. Prather, age 88 of Jasper, Ga., died Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
Mr. Prather was born June 4, 1923, in Pickens County. He is the son of the late Lee W. and Gladys Frazer Prather. He worked at the Shoe Plant in Jasper as a supervisor in shoe cutting department. Mr. Prather was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper and a U.S. Army WWII veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Mullinax Prather, of the home; son, Frazer Prather, Jasper; daughter-in-law, Martha Prather, Jasper; and grandchild: Heather Prather, Jasper.
The funeral service was held Saturday, July 23, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Lawrence officiating. Music was by Tony Fountain. Pallbearers were: Tony and Terry Fountain, Leonard Blackwell, Tim Ray, Jonathan Hendrix and Tanner Fountain. Interment was held in the Jasper City Cemetery. Blaire Fredrick Barber, age 55 of Big Canoe, Ga., passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Blaire was born in Tacoma, Wa., being raised in Lakewood, Wa., and Marietta, Ga., before residing in North Ridgeville, Oh., Columbia, Md., Princeton, N.J., and Big, Canoe. He graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1974 and attended Georgia State University, Howard Community College and the University of Maryland. He was a much beloved father, son, brother and friend. Blaire loved life and his family, leaving a legacy of good spirit and enthusiasm in his wake. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverlee Barber.
He is survived by his son, Kyle Barber, Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Katie Barber, Hiawassee, Ga.; father, William Barber, Big Canoe; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Bill Allgood and Georgia and Mike Anders, all of Marietta, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Dawn Barber of Ellicot City, Md.; and grandmother, Ruth Haman, Denver, Co. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will hold a private celebration of his life. William “Bill” Clarence Conley, age 80 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Conley, Jasper; and children, Jeff (Mandi) Conley, Duluth, Clint (Leigh) Conley, Norcross, and Prisca Rhinehart, Alpharetta. Seven grandchildren and a host of friends also survive.

Mrs. Helen Keeter Galluzzo, age 99 of Monterey Park-Las Angeles, Ca., passed at her residence Wednesday, July 13, 2011. She was born and raised in Talking Rock.
Survivors include her sister, Meridith Keeter, Talking Rock; and numerous cousins.
A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, at the Keeter Family Cemetery in Gilmer County above Talking Rock with Dr. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Joan Eckert, age 76 of Jasper, Ga., passed Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Eckert, Jasper, and William Eckert, Stillwater, N.J.; daughter, Shirley Silver, McDonough, Ga.; and brother, James Burchill, Ellijay, Ga. Five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Mac Romine, age 67 of Jasper, passed early Thursday morning, July 21, 2011, at Heritage Health Care in Blue Ridge, Ga.
Survivors include his mother, Eunice Romine, Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Lamar Carver, Jasper; nieces, Sandy and Bill Jordan and Stephanie and Jamie Boling; and great-nieces, Jordyn Hammontree, Taylor and Reagan Boling. Several additional nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, July 23, at 2 p.m. from Pleasant Hill Christian Church with Ministers Kasey Kuyper and Leo Beller officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
