William Koester, Sr.
Mr. William Russell “Bill” Koester, Sr., age 66 of Jasper, Ga., died May 17, 2011, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital following a sudden illness.
Born on Dec. 15, 1944, in Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. Koester worked in the home remodeling industry as a carpenter for R&M Construction.
He was survived by his daughters, Kathleen Thompson, Springville, N.Y., and Shannon Gannon, Machis, N.Y.; son, William Russell Koester, Jr., Jasper; mother, Eleanor Vara, Hamburg, N.Y.; sisters and brother-in-law, Cindy and Joe Cook and Carolyn Dentice, all of Angola, N.Y., Ceclia Koester, Massachusetts, and Camy Schaffer, Hosisk Falls, N.Y.; and brothers, Walter Koester, Mayville, N.Y., and Raymond Koester, Jr., San Antonio, Tx. Mr. Koester was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Koester; and his brothers, Kevin and Kenneth Koester. Four grandchildren also survive.
At his request, Mr. Koester was cremated and a memorial service will be held in Buffalo, N.Y., at a later date. Roper Funeral Home in Jasper in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Cecilia Ophelia Dorsey McCowan, age 45 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Mrs. McCowan was the daughter of Cecil and Ophel Dorsey of White County. She was the sixth child of seven children. She was born on Feb. 20, 1966, and was a graduate of White County High School class of 1984 and North Georgia Tech School of Nursing. She was a member of Travis Chapel United Methodist Church.
On August 11, 1988, she married Jeffery McCowan of Pickens County and was a long time employee of Grandview Nursing Home. Out of the blessed union with Jeffery were born a daughter, Ashley Ophelia, born on August 31, 1990, and son, Jeffery Chase, born on Nov. 2, 1992. Cecilia was a loving, caring and fun-loving person who was adored by all she met.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff McCowan, Jasper; children, Ashley and Jeffery Chase McCowan, both of Jasper; father, Cecil Dorsey; mother-in-law, Helen McCowan, Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta and Todd Wise, Virginia Beach, and Carol and Albert Veal, Cleveland; brothers, Frankie Powell, Habersham, Ishman and Anthony Dorsey, both of Cleveland, and Todd Dorsey, Atlanta; God-daughter, Heather Hall; and special friends, Janie Hall and Stella Monforti.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Revs. Kenneth Brown and R.S. Thomas officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Jeffery Cantrell, age 37 of Talking Rock, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Survivors include his son, Jeffery Cantrell, Jr., Jasper; daughter, Brenda Cantrell, Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Angel Cantrell, Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa Cantrell and Sean Miller, Oklahoma, and Teresa and Gary Hightower, Jasper; and special cousins, Connie and Tommy Wehunt, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Talking Rock Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Allen officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Beloved wife and mother, Patricia Elaine Sellers, age 57, passed away at her home in Jasper on Wednesday, May 18, 2011.
Independently and as a member of Jasper Lions Club, Mrs. Sellers insisted on helping anyone in need. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Jasper Lions Club Benevolence Fund.
Survivors include her husband of almost 40 years, Roy Sellers; and her children, Steven and Jessica Sellers and Melanie Effler, all of Jasper, and Pamela Wyatt, Cartersville. Mrs. Sellers was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Maude Effler.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. from Cagle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leo Hampton officiating. Interment followed at Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery in Holly Springs, Ga. Pallbearers were: Johnny Collett, Louis Cortez, Donnie Craig, Mitch Gloyd, Paul Lindsey and Mark Maddox.
