Mary Wright Grubbs
Mary Wright Grubbs, age 79 of Santarosa Beach, Fl., passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, William Grubbs, Santarosa; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Christina Martin, Kennesaw; daughter-in-law, Pam L. Martin, Atlanta; 7 grandchildren, Bre and Zach Kell, Wendy and Matt Brown, Adam F. Martin and Ryan and Laura Martin, all of Canton, Jamie L. Martin, Atlanta, Elizabeth Bartolick and Ethan J. Bartolick, both of Kennesaw; 5 great-grandchildren, Riley Kell, Andrea Kell, Nolan Kell, Skylar Brown and Kenley Brown. Mrs. Grubbs was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth E. Martin Jr.
A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 28, from the Georgia National Cemetery with the Rev. Ben Laughlin officiating. Interment followed in the Georgia National Cemetery. The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Heart Association. Darby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Dee Dodson Greenwell
Mrs. Dee Dodson Greenwell, age 63 of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born Jan. 16, 1948, in Cherryvale, Ks., she was the daughter of the late William Alva Dodson and Wilma Irene Friley Dodson. Mrs. Greenwell attended and graduated Cherryvale High School also Weaver Airline School, where upon graduation, was hired by National Airlines. She finished a 22 year airlines career with Pan American World Airway. Subsequent to her tenure with the airlines, she spent the next 15 years in the home health field, serving as both local and regional administrator.
Upon retiring in 2005 and moving to Jasper with her husband Stephen, she became involved with Habitat for Humanity as a member and chairman of the construction committee. Dee served as a volunteer for both Georgia Mountain Hospice and the Auxiliary at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. Dee was a member of Teamsters Local Union #769 in Miami, Florida and a member of Tate United Methodist Church in Tate.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Stephen Greenwell, Jasper; daughters, Lynn Maddaloni, Sebastian, Fl., and Patricia Shaffer, Deerfield Beach, Fl.; son, Christopher Greenwell, Chester, Va.; grandchildren, C.J. and Carter Greenwell, Trace and Reece Shaffer and Cole Greenwell; sister, Anne Gowans, Fulton, Mo.; and brother, James Dodson, Independence, Ks. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
At her request, Mrs. Greenwell was cremated and a memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, April 2, at the Tate United Methodist Church. Rev. Rob Bruce will officiate with a reception to follow after the Memorial Service. Mr. Lee Hollifield, age 95 of Jasper, Ga., died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Heritage Healthcare in Jasper following a period of declining health.
Born on June 11, 1915, in Gilmer County, Ga., he was son to the late Harley and Florence Hollifield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Hammontree Hollifield; and sons, Sammy, Leon, Curtis and James Hollifield; and grandsons, Richard and Shane Hollifield.
Mr. Hollifield was a self-employed saw miller in the lumber industry.
He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Duncan, Jasper, and Linda Ingram, Ball Ground; and his son, David Hollifield, Jasper. Nineteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 25, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Hughey Holloway officiating. Interment following at the Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery.
Sam McFarland, age 81 of Canton, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Piedmont Hospital.
He was in the poultry business and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vonnie McFarland, Canton; sons, Daniel and Henry McFarland, both of Canton; daughter, Toni Simmons, Jasper; brothers, Clyde McFarland, Canton, and Bob McFarland, Jasper; and sister, Ruby Wallace, Canton. Seven grandchildren, six great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Allen, Bobby Segars and Mark Henson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. South Canton Funeral Home & Chapel in charge or arrangements.
Mrs. Alice Delphine Hoban, age 92 of Jasper, Ga., died March 12, 2011 at her residence.
Born March 2, 1919, in Eerie, Pa., to the late Glen and Clara Merritt, Mrs. Hoban was the vice president of Peoples Bank.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Linda Hoban, Jasper, and Pat and Lynn Hoban, Atlanta.
Visitation was held Sunday, March 13, at Roper Funeral Home. At her request, Mrs. Hoban was cremated following visitation.
Mr. James T. Chastain, age 62 of Jasper, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Chastain, Jasper; sister, Retha Lathem, Pikeville, Tn.; step-daughter and son-in-law, Delorse and Johnny Shipman; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Mary Tilson, Talking Rock, and Scott and Tabatha Tilson, Ellijay. Five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three nieces and one nephew also survives.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Dotson officiating. Interment followed in Bethel Christian Church Cemetery.
Ruth M. Jones, age 92 of Pickens County, died Friday, March 18, 2011.
The service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 20, from Mary’s Memorial Baptist Church.
Mrs. Mary Magdlene Priest, age 85 of Charleston, S.C., formerly of Talking Rock, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Gregg King, Bonneau, S.C.; and grandchildren, David Bowers, Dallas King and Heather Heath. Mrs. Priest was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Priest; daughter, Toni Plumley; and son, Jeff Priest.
The funeral service was held at noon Sunday, March 27, from Town Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Gus Smith and Randy Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dallas King, Mick, Jimmy and Timmy Priest, John Kelly and Richie Haithcock. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Helen Little, age 84 of Jasper, passed away March 24, 2011, at her residence.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sheryl Little, Jasper; and grandchildren, Amanda Kreft, Canton, Marsha Desillas, Fayetteville, Ga., and Michelle O’Brien, Charlotte, N.C. Three great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Rucker officiating. Interment followed in Jasper City Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Tim Butler, Mike Mosley, Lee Frady, Tim Heffron, Johnny Brock and Willis Soulia. The family did accept flowers or memorials may be made to Cornerstone Church, Jasper.
Mrs. Mary White, age 77 of Tate, Ga., passed early Wednesday morning, March 23, 2011, at The Bridges @ South Pittsburg, South Pittsburg, Tn.
Survivors include her son, Scott White, Tate; daughter, Christina Price, Cartersville; grandchildren, Joseph Craig Price and Ashely Meghan White; and great-grandson, Dylan Jacob Price.
A graveside service was held Saturday, March 26, at 3:30 p.m. from Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta. Woodrow Robert Lamb officiated. The family did accept flowers or memorials to a charity of your choice.
