Pickens resident Sherry Ainsworth - mother of the 22-year old John Wood Jr., the man whose body was found on a field road in Gordon County in early August - has launched a fundraising campaign to honor her only son.

Three men and one woman have been arrested and charged with murder in conjunction with Wood’s death. Wood was last seen on July 24, 2014 in Calhoun, Ga. where he was living in an apartment at the time.
The Pickens mom started “John’s Smile Train Memorial” donation page and wants to raise $5,000 for Smile Train by Christmas as a memorial to her son.
Smile Train is an international charity that raises money to help children born with cleft lip and palate.
“John Always had a smile on his face,” the memorial page reads. “He was always laughing and goofing about. He had an infectious smile and we want to help others across the world have a wonderful smile."
Wood lived in Jasper from 2012 through early 2013 and was employee at the Jasper Kroger.
Wood’s mother owns Whitestone Shutter Company on Flea Market Road.
