Michael Jordan officially took over as the Jasper postmaster on April 30. Jordan will have worked for the United States Post office for 21 years in November.
He started right out of high school in Woodstock. He has worked at different locations and was the postmaster in Rydal for the last two years. He has been married to wife Melissa for 20 years has a daughter Tiffany, who is 19. The family lives in Ball Ground.

What happens to pets when owners are put in jail? One Pickens resident had two dogs, Buddy and Ching Ching, taken by animal control when he was incarcerated. A neighbor complained about dogs running loose and the shelter picked them up like they would any other stray. The Pickens County Animal Shelter director said they are willing to work with pet owners in these cases, but they need to be contacted and made aware of the situation.

Candidates for the contested races in the Republican Primary this May 24th addressed voters at a forum attended by a roomful of supporters Thursday at Chattahoochee Technical College.
The forum hosted by the local Republican Party remained cordial with detailed questions posed from pre-screened submissions.
All candidates in the contested races – commission chair, school board post 1, tax commissioner and coroner attended.

Cherokee County emergency responders trained in large animal rescue help a horse named Chelsea who is unable to stand up on her own. After training this summer, Pickens emergency crews will offer large animal rescue services like the one pictured above.
What if you owned a horse like Chelsea, who has severe arthritis in one of her knees? The arthritis is so bad Chelsea can’t bend her left leg, which means if she falls down it’s nearly impossible for her to get back up.
This scenario is one of many that could mean a bad day for people who have large animals like cows or horses. But later this summer, Pickens residents will be able to call 911 and have local emergency workers help them get big animals back on their feet.
