Orlaco invests in new headquarters in Jasper

ATLANTA, Dec. 17 — The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announced today that Orlaco, a global manufacturer of camera solutions for heavy equipment, on-road truck, crane and fork lift manufacturers, will open its first U.S.-based office and warehouse in Pickens County, creating 65 jobs over the next five years.
Case transferred to juvenile court
The trial of a 17-year-old accused of killing his step-father with a single stab from a Samurai sword appears to be headed for trial in January, a year after the fatal argument at a basement apartment in a Preserve at Sharp Mountain subdivision home.
Family of victim disappointed
by court’s handling of case
The mother and a brother of Christopher Allen, the victim in the Samurai sword killing in November 2012, expressed disappointment with the way the case had been handled in the Pickens court system.
Jasper and Ball Ground both got early Christmas gifts in the form of "not-too-bad" weather for their parades over the weekend.
In Ball Ground Friday, the parade had just ended when the bottom fell out with heavy rain. And in Jasper (see picture above) on Saturday night it was cold but not the coldest Jasper Night of Lights and dry. Rain didn't develop until much later.
